Hello riu. Im on an ipad and typing isn't the easiest thing to do so ill keep it short.

i have some bugs and I would really appreciate a little help identifying them.

theyre black and seem to live mostly in the foliage. the are almost five weeks into flowering.

Black bodies with clear wings. There is visible leaf damage it looks like my bugs are eating away at the leaves.

I realize that that's not much info but its all I have at the moment. I'll post pics when the lights come on in the morning.

If anyone can point me towards a guide that includes known pests with pics that would be good too.

oh...and bugs are completely visible with the naked eye. Although I have a strong suspicion that I'm only aware of the flying adults.

So...whad'ya think?

Why guess. I'll wait for a picture.
Tis not really a guess, unless he has tons of friendlies in there.. the black body clear wings (which I'd go out on another limb and say unveined wings) is definitely a fungus gnat.

I didn't mean it was a guess on your part, but it would have been on mine.;-)

Gotcha, as with anything.. if someone said that to me - it wouldn't bother me, I've seen enough pics of them during my reading that I could identify one while 1/2 drunk by visualization, but I'd probably forget the name at that point hahahaha

Something else I'd forgotten to mention.. the larvae will be hiding in the soil, an average of 2-3 inches deep. The fix for this, soil drench with neem oil, or you could go with normal 3% hydrogen peroxide 1:4 with pH'd water. You'd let the top dry out a bit... to the point that the first few inches are dry-ish but not completely dry, then go with the water/peroxide mix. Hanging sticky traps near the plants will help bag the flying ones. (hopefully) If you need further ideas on how to handle these things sanely, by all means let it be known.

Good luck!

Hey. What's up guys. Thanks for the quick reply. Fungus gnats sounds about right. I originally thought the bugs were located in the medium. A few fly out of it every morning when I water. I'm in coco by the way. Sticky traps are on the mornings shopping list. The help is muchappreciated.

Yup, run a neem oil shot on the medium, or peroxide/water combo for the larvae in the soil... and fly strips to control the airborne mofos and you should be all set :D

Fungus gnats or winged root aphids they look almost identical. Know the bugs cause if you try killing aphids with gnat killer products it won't work and will be a waste of money.

Root aphids love coco. When I ran in coco I had a bad problem with winged root aphids. I thought the were gnats at first and would use gnat products and it wouldn't work. I figured out they were root aphids b the way the fly the root aphids will fly directly at your light reflector glass. The gnats will buzz around like flys.
