ok so been reading about how plants obviously sense the first frost of the year n know whats coming im wondering if i did a leach of my soil in the final week using ice water and maybe leave a few ice cubes ontop the soil if this may be useful or is it just going to cause a final week hermie or maybe just a coupe of days in the dark giving icewater or something just heard off a few posts that last min stress can actually be good for trichomes although again this is all just theory would love a few ideas

I would try to perfect my growing skills before trying any experiments, as much fun as that might be. You'll learn what your plants like. I don't think the ice would help you any, but who knows? Post some pics of your grow if you have one. I'm interested to see what you have so far.
This is probably one of the better posts I've read in a long time. I get so annoyed at new growers trying all kinds of bullshit when they can't even grow a proper healthy plant.

Just yesterday I was reading an old thread and 2 dudes were debating the need for a water chiller in hydro. The pro chiller guy said how it has done wonders for his garden and then posted this pic

Smh but he's not worried about his over fertilization problems at all...

Sorry if this sounds rude op, but seriously, focus on growing a healthy plant. Learn all the basics and master them. That's all you need, let the plant speak for itself. Your job is just to keep it healthy till it's done.

thanx i dont find that rude to say at all and this is my main focus just like the idea of trying different things to make things possibly better and had read up on similar theories im hoping to be doing this for the rest of my life so would like to think id tried a few diff things lol

The shock to the roots could have all sorts of bad ju ju start!

NOT a good idea!
Eh if using ice water definitely gonna get shock but best way to get some fall colors is by placing a layer of ice on top of your media mimics first frost. It doesn't kill the roots just stress em and do it 3-5 days before crop. But I agree on grow a healthy plant first then worry about getting your colors lol

see this was more what i was looking for ill be putting all the effort into normal growing as u can see by my pics fk im scared to top em at times incase i hurt em so dont wanna do anything drastic just heard can possibly boost trich production never thought into colours ill be honest i was just thinking of maybe a 3 day dark cycle with ice water flushes and cubes on the soil surly killing roots in ya last 3 days isnt gonna make no difference as u chopping it anyway but wasnt aiming for killing just mild autum stressing

I would say no on the ice water. Mother nature doesn't rain 34 degree during the fall. And the first frost the roots would never notice outdoors. Takes a very serious cold snap for frost to permeate the ground. Maybe cooler then normal water...but ice...probably not. The ice on the grow media intrigues me...maybe do that a couple hours before lights on?

you need the air cooled . then it will bring out the colors in the plants . this is when you get the purples or red or so on . its like the season fall it drops into the 60 f and watch the color come out . . the plant above ow my there are so many nutrient issues with it . i honestly would throw it into the fire pit to get rid of it total loss .

Slow your roll... the op's plants are fine. He shouldn't throw his plants away. If you're talking about the one I posted, again, slow it down. Go back and re-read that post.

this plant in my OPINION if it were mine I throw it out .

What about using ice cubes in your soil every now and then? I heard this was a good idea from an old grower who seems to have 90% bad ideas and 10% good ones so I don't trust their advice much, they claimed placing regular ice cubes around it in the soil would make it take off in growth (same person only grows outdoors so is confused by indoor concepts for some reason and thought my obviously female plant was a male, just to give some perspective)this is why I haven't taken any of their advice unless I can find information to back it up. Anyone here know anything about this? Much appreciation if so. :dunce:

Ice cubes only work , if you use snake oil n stick bobby pins in all the stocks .

I would not talk to that person about growing any more .

I guess the ice water or boiling water flushes were just that, a way of killing the root nutrient uptake and forcing the plant to use stored reserves. I would do it in the last couple days not weeks as plamts probably die soon after.

Others can correct me here or expand, i forget if roots can still uptake water after etc etc.

I guess most of us have tried this and other ways but just gave up flushing as wasnt needed if you grow nice green plants and tailor your nutes. Many fade to finish.

I always had a spare plant every grow to try but mainly the last week dosent change the bud, its the eight weeks before that made it. That said its easier to screw the bud uo in a week.

Try it is best way here :-)

do by all means check my journal its on the bottom of my posts i think im doing ok so far tho or at least not bad for a start :DView attachment 3785285 View attachment 3785286 View attachment 3785287 View attachment 3785288 View attachment 3785289 View attachment 3785290 View attachment 3785291 View attachment 3785292 was just a theory as i said just like to try different things or maybe check peoples experiences nothing wrong with a bit of science lol

Thanks, yeah like I said I don't do anything he mentions unless I've looked it up and found out it's truly solid advice. He's pretty dopey about all things he gives advice on no matter what it is so I know better haha I couldn't really find anything on ice cubes and growing here though so I figured I would ask. Appreciate the input.
