I want that sweet smell before I harvest and its not there

I seem to have issues on a few grows both past and current and it might just be using too much nutes but I wanted to ask the group. :wall:

At times my current plant has a nice sweet smell that we all love with MJ and times it has that a different smell that is more like a weed in your garden that you pluck from the ground.

So I want to know if there are any tips or tricks that some do in order to get the best smell from the plant before you harvest. I have slowed way down on my nutes for the past week and just water only to get rid of any possibilities of too much nutes in my soil and the good smell still seems to come and go so I am not sure that was it.

Should I not water leading up to harvest and let the soil get pretty dry? What do some of you do a week or so before you harvest?

Thanks in advance :leaf:

When I went organic and started mixing my own soils there was a huge difference in a good way, both with smell and taste. Trust me once you go organic, you won't look back.

Any I've been around usually smell a bit more sweet when they are getting in need of a watering, right before and after lights on. Later on in the day and mostly right before dark they tend to smell a little more like chlorophyll hence the "garden/lawn weed" smell.

The amounts of various terpenoids change during a plant's growing life and then they, like cannabinoids, also change during drying and curing. That makes it pretty hard to end up with a final 'product' that smelled the way like most liked in say, maybe the 4th or 6th week of flower.

If a certain final dried/cured odor/smell is of importance to you than maybe you need to rethink the strains you grow and try some others.

If you go here ..... http://en.seedfinder.eu/ ... you can find info on about 3,500 or so different strains. A good number of them have grow reports and in some of them have detailed info about odor and taste. There will not only be a description but a graphic, like a chart, and if you mouse over it you will find things like .... taste/flavor: 29% cherry, 5% tropical, 9% berry, 43% fruity, 12% floral, 3% bubble gum, 4% cookie dough, 77% sweet, 16% spicy, 3% sweet, 3% herbs. (That came from a Serious Seeds AK47 grow report.) In many cases it has the same option for aroma and the weed effect (as in smoking it).

so brick top ur saying theres no wayyy it will smell like it did at week 5-6 at final ? Cuz i got a lambs bread thats smelling amazing and i want that same taste i know the drying and curing is the best way..but is there nothing we could do as marijuana plants as they mature seem to change in smell alot! But ive never noticed not good buds just always wanna know how to make them better.

I didn't use the words; "no way" but the likelihood of the odor remaining the same are slim. Different terpenoids will be produced in different amounts and then when dried and cure they undergo changes. It could end up similar, but that's most likely as close as you will get to what you already smelled and liked.

It could end up better than what you now think is great. You never know until the a plant fully matures, is properly dried and given a long cure.

yea i have noticed when they need watering the nice smell is there at times and now that I think about it I usually notice it when the lights just come on so some great points.
Thanks everyone for the great posts. this gives me lots to think about.

you might be right. This smell issue is mainly with one particular plant and happened on their clones as well.
