If I want to change the PH of my medium I typically pour the correct PH into the medium and don't stop until the runoff meters what I'm putting in. I would never pump 5.0 solution into my medium to try to "equalize" the PH. I've been there and tried it, its called chasing the PH. If the lime has been administered in appropriate amounts and you're putting in PH solution within the range you wish to achieve, the resulting PH "should" fall between your target and 7.0.

When you say within 24 hours it will be at 7.5 to 8.5 how are you arriving at these results? Are they from runoff or are they from a soil PH tester?
