I Need Advice On A Tent

Happy New Year.

So I want to get a 4x4 tent. I will be purchasing from Grower's House. they seem to have great prices on everything.

Below are 2 different tents: One is a Secret Jardin. The other is made by a company called R &M. I see no difference between the 2 except for $90 more for Secret Jardin. I find no reviews or info on R &M anywhere on line ?

Am I missing something here. Again they seem identical inc. the printed description.

check the material. Some material emits a gas when it gets hot and kills all plants. Just a heads up. Don't go cheap on a tent. Secret Jarddin is the way to go, my 2 cents....

Thanks for the heads up. As descriptions are identical i thought maybe the R & M was somehow connected to Jardin?

Make sure it's got metal corners instead of plastic ones.

I stumbled across the R & M brand after I ordered my SJ DR150. The descriptions are identical. The pictures are identical. The Secret Jardin is made in the Peoples Republic of China. I imagine the R & M is made in China too. It is common practice to rebrand items to sell at different markets. Usually the rebranded item is functionally identical to the original. But sometimes they make what they perceive as minor changes like quality control, parts source, etc.

I'd bet the two brands are made in the same factory by the same people. But the qc inspections may differ or even be missing on one or the other. Does the T & M use the same light tight zippers as Secret Jardin? The poles are the same thickness but are they the same strength? Same with the corners. Will the vendor warranty them the same?

Neither have metal corners. If I can find replacement metal 19mm corners, I'll get some. But I have 2 large reflectors with glass, a fan, and lots of ducting being supported and no crash yet.

You can't go wrong with Jardin darkroom. I have Dr120 also and just bought a Dr240w 2.5 (newest model) yesterday. Just got done setting it up and it is awesome. Very well made.

I'm looking into tents as well, just posted a thread with my current design specs. Check out gorilla grow tents. They are pricey and I have heard mixed opinions on them, mostly good but almost everyone agrees they are overpriced including myself. They are appealing to me because they can hold up to 300 lbs. However I've also heard good things about Jardin tents. Only reason why I'm not considering Jardin is because they can't handle the amount of weight I need and several people have complained about tears in the fabric. However, if I didn't have the money for a gorilla tent I would go with Jardin.

Don't get one with plastic corners I have one that I have been using for a couple of years and I have to keep rigging it to work. I cant use original cross beams anymore the plastic pieces busted off. I made it work with some afro engineering but its just temporary until I get a better one. Secret Jardin is a good brand.

I've used secret jardin, silver edition, gorilla, and grow lab. Things I've noticed. Gorilla tents were the most expensive. They were also the strongest tents. For example I could hang from them like a monkey and climb across the poles on the top. I try this on every tent to test how well it can hold weight. Silver editions could also accommodate. In the grow lab, the bars popped out of the plastic holders and I fell down, same with the secret jardin. I've had rips and tears in my jardins, grow labs, and silver editions. However this was probably due to location as there were many sharp sheets of rock and glass around my tents and as I've moved them around they rip on the floor or walls. If you aren't an idiot, or if you have just a little bit of foresight, you won't rip your tent. Biggest things to be concerned with when it comes to tents (in my eyes). First things first is weight. If you are going to have 100-200lbs+ hanging from your tent poles, you're going to want something like the gorillas or silver editions. If it isn't a major set up, the secret jardins and grow labs get the job done fine. Another thing is rust. I hate rusty poles, I've had my jardin poles rust, and my silver editions. The grow lab I didn't own for as long, so I'm not sure about them. And the gorilla tent I have is enormous and even if I spilled buckets of water it would still be hard to get the water on the poles (and I'd rather not test it).

So in summation, jardins and grow labs work fine unless you want a much heavier weight for your area than normal. This probably won't be the case but you should try and figure out how much weight you need to support before hand. Gorillas are by far the best experience I've had with tents. Way too expensive, I'd never buy one full price, but damn they are built well. silver editions are the inbetween
