I need advice about this bulb

hi all has anyone had any experience with these type of bulbs and is it worth getting 1 D for growing weed with thanks in advance..Carl 500W Sylvania HSB BW Self Ballasted Blended Mercury MBT F500 Watt 3500K CCTReliableVerticle +/- 30 degrees burning positionE40 GES cap, 14,000 lumens

a 400w HPS has an output of about 50,000 lumens. So for a 500w bulb to only be putting out 14,000 seems low to me.

When I googled the bulb that same site came up.
So let me say this, Im in the states not UK.
But if you're saving up for an HPS I'd say wait and do that.
Ive used HPS, MH, T5, T8, CFL...and the results with my HPS have been by far the best.

A 150w/hps puts out about 13,000 lumens. Somewhere around that anyway. 150W/hps lamps and ballasts are cheaper and easier to get than a two fifty, because 150's are standard exterior lighting and most electrical contractors have them, new and used. I'd offer 20 buck canadian for a complete second hand fixture, or 100 bucks for six of them.

Yeah, it'd work, but you'd only be getting around 100 watts worth of performance,(give or take) from 500 watts of power useage. VERY inefficient, but will grow plants.

I'd disagree completely with Jawbrodt. Color temperature is wrong, 500w of heat and 14,000 lumens means you have to keep the bulb too far from the plant.

I think it'd kill plants before it'd grow them.

I didn't say they'd grow nice plants, I just said they'd grow plants, in general. They'd probably be stretched like crazy, and look like shit, but, the light certainly wouldn't kill them. :wink:

thanks guys i'll think i'll wait till i can offord a h,p,s i'll jst have to carry on using my cfl's till then they went in to flowering on the 19/10 so theres only a few weeks to a month left....
