I need A diy controller fan for 8" vortex ?

I got a can fan 50 and its rated for 450 cfm to clean the air ,well i ahve a 800 cfm fan I need to slow down and quiet down .
Im having trouble finding a diy or make it your self guid to amke a simple speed controller .

Anyone got a link... I also live no wheres near a hydrostore so I order from online and that will take too long any ideas ?

You can try hooking up the elec. through a light dimmer switch. All it does is remove voltage using resistance, you can get them at any hardware store. All you have to do is wire it up and turn the dial to control your speed.

much liek the ones that sell online jsut plug the fan into the conrtoller and the controller into the wall and thats it ? got any links so i can fllow somthing liek that?

do you one better and give you the plans for a temperature controlled motor speed controller.

You could connect a femal and male plug end to a light dimmer switch and then have that be in between your fan and power source. It would probably cost you about $4. I have been told that running fans that are not intended to be variable on dimmer switches can lessen the life of the fan, though I have had no problems with my 285cfm on a dimmer.
