I manually removed the shell off a germinated seed, will it survive?

So one of my seeds was just killing me by not growing at all, I planted it on the 1st of April, it didn't germinate after 3 days, so I sank it in water, then the paper towel, then when I saw a tiny root I planted on a Jiffy Pellet by +- the 6th of April, then waited until now and it wasn't sprouting, so:

1) I dug it out and this is what I found:

The root was only 1/4" and didn't seem to be growing anymore, also it wasn't really rooted, it was horizontally very close to the surface.

2) So I used pliers to remove the shell and: The cotyledon is still green, it is still alive. But it is folded, it wasn't really ready to sprout, the leaves are not visible and the tip was brown as if burned, don't know, since it was close to the surface then maybe it dried up quick and burned the tip or maybe it was the effect of water, don't know but the rest of the body seemed fine, except like I said, no signs of leaves, it was just like a folded neck with a tiny tap root, it wasn't ready to sprout.

3) I was able to replant it now with the root pointing down, let the head of the cotyledon slightly visible from the surface and I'm keeping it out of the grow room so the soil won't dry up quick and I'm keeping it moist.

IS IT STILL VIABLE AT ALL? CAN IT STILL MAKE IT?

Sure can, many growers pick the shell of the slow germers,

I use a pin, I just know I shouldn't and often regret it,

for me its still a 30/60 odds of making it,

keep it warm and damp, is good

good luck

ps .and very educational too ..lol

Thanks, I realize the best course of action would have been to just plant the seed deeper with the case still on and the root down but at the same time this is obviously a seed that is just not having the required vitality and slower than normal.

How about mixing some Aspirin with water and feeding it to the seedling?

I dissolved 1/5 of an Aspirin in 1 liter of water, then I poured some on this caseless seed/seedling and hours later under a magnifying lens, it looks like the Aspirin gave it some vitality/colouration:

What do you guys think? Will it be viable?

Aspirin /Salic acid is seriously strong shit,I dilute half a tab
to 8 liters /2 us gallons of water for general use ..lucky you ..lol

Member Satved post this on a distant site ..on the same situation

1. take the part of the seed you want out of the seed
scrape off edges with a small kitchen knife

2. Crack open the shell with your nails or the knife

3. Leave the green husk on:

4. Or remove it too. It doesn't matter either way. Plant it in something
(soil, coco, rock wool, toilet paper, or aerated water) and watch it grow:

That excludes the shell being the problem and if it still doesn't grow it's probably dead.
No need to wait weeks till enough water penetrated the shell, or the seedling to rot
inside cause it can't open the shell fast enough,
just open it up.

So for a few days it actually looked like it was fattening up and today I woke up only to find it had darkened, didn't look healthy, tried to remove the soft membrane covering it to no avail only to realize it was probably starting to die, also the root was hook-shaped and again, not really going down the soil, so I just trashed it, it was just struggling to stay alive.

I planted it exactly at waning crescent/new moon, so maybe the myth is true and seeds planted during this stage will die.

This is a true story told by my Zen master:

He received some trees as a gift and he planted them around the temple. Problem was that these trees weren't adapting to the weather conditions of the place. They had to be watered too much and still displayed many problems when growing, they had very few leaves, they looked like crap all the time.

After 2 years he cut them, he said the fact that they were sad and weak all the time was just a negative experience for anyone. Instead of fulfilling a purpose of decorating or cleaning the air they had turned us into their slaves to provide them with everything and yet they still looked like crap.
True, it was not their fault in a way, but what else could you do? Pay to get them transplanted somewhere else where they will get what they want?

Sometimes it is just a warning call, 3 - 4 months to grow something that is weak is just not a good idea.

Mistake here....like clone buyers and growers ...is you are growing in someone else's work,

along with all the shit that is involved with that particular grower,

poor education, low energy, wilting spirit, greed, malice,

better to germ and grow in or around that spot, plants ain't dumb, man is

good luck

ps look close at the trees near your church ...compare
