Congress can sometimes to a better job by not passing more legislation.

I like how that meme left out the 1994 contract with America. Probably one of the most successful, in terms of doing what they said they would do, political campaigns in American history.

Our only hope is to base our currency on an easily manipulated commodity with barely any intrinsic value, something like gold or coprolites.

What about silver?

It is absolutely essential to all electronics, everywhere.

Seems like a pretty solid commodity to me.

Why not keep our currency based upon being able to use it to pay the government property taxes, since property is ultimately the source of goods? As long as property has value, so will the currency if it is used to pay taxes on that property. Providing that the government is able and willing to enforce property taxes.

A few weeks ago, we figured out what was happening to the Ron Paul portfolio — the former Texas congressman's 64% investment in gold and other rocks — and it wasn't pretty.
His portfolio is comprised of major miners and a handful of juniors, and displays a marked lack of diversification.
Investment manager William Bernstein told the Wall Street Journal that “This portfolio is a half-step away from a cellar-full of canned goods and nine-millimeter rounds.”

We should base our currency on leaves. They are green and grow on trees. Also they make good compost.
