I listened to my messages the other day

And found that the DEA had left two messages asking me to call them about an ongoing investigation in which my name had come up.

I dialed the number and spoke to an agent who claimed that my name and address was on a package along with 37 other packages that were being shipped from the Dominican Republic into the United States but had been intercepted. He asked me if I had placed an order for any medications over seas and I said I had not. Whereupon he demanded to know which URL I was using and if I had ever browsed online pharmacies. I said I had browsed many sites for information and browsing was not against the law. Further I said that my name could be anywhere on anything and it did not mean I had ordered anything from anywhere.

This agent said that he had looked at my record and was willing to let me go with a warning not to purchase drugs overseas but go to a doctor and pharmacy instead. Knowing better than to argue, but arguing anyway, my fear abaiting, I said that overseas medicine was usually made by or made under licesnse from legitimate companies and that many of the drugs we use in the us are imported anyway. He grew angry and said that I had been warned. He said that there was a warrent for my arrest and that there was a court date set for next week. I told him I had gotten no supeona and if this was the case, my rights to due process were being violated because I was not given time to arrange to appear nor time to retain an attorney.

I hung up, thought about it for a bit and then called their office back, where I got a different agent who asked me if I was a lawyer. I said I was not but I was well aware of my rights. He asked me what I had said to the first agent and I said I would rather he tell me. He proceeded to tell me that there was an ongoing investigation of 11 people, because some people had died from using imported medication and my name came up in a database.
But because I had no record they were willing to let me go with a fine of $1031 dollars. I said, "you cannot fine anyone", I demanded to know the date and time of the hearing and this agent said there was no hearing date set. He said it things would go easier "you could be my father sir", if I complied and that paperwork would be in the mail in the morning. And my life could be ruined unless I complied. The guy talked over me numberous times and I had to slow him down. Then I hung up again.

Googling the number that was used, I encountered exact descriptions of their tactics. I do not know how they got my name and number but I doubt they did so from any database. I know there is no package destined for me. I know how customs handles small packages of suspect contents. I know that DEA agents rarely contact people by phone about ongoing investigations - but still, hearing official sounding badge numbers "N as in narcotics, 3997, Sir" is still a bit disconcerting.

I am waiting for whatever they say they are mailing me but I suspect they are done, I really wanted to see how they would consumate the scam, where they would have me send my "fine" and how.

Then I got to thinking of some fun. I figured I would tell them that I don't have the money but i was willing to roll over on the Guadalupe Hidalgo cartel, I know two of the leutenants, their schedules and time lines and of course they must be after this ring that is importing at least twenty pounds of china white into the country every month that I know of.

My wife doesn't want me to do this.

Or I could actually call the FBI, as I am certain tht the DEA cares little about such scams. Wire fraud, impersonating a federal officer and perhaps some RICO offenses might catch their ear, and then I could have them send ME $1031.

My wife doesn't want me to do this

Or I could have all of my friends, including anyone here who was interested, in deluging the number with phone calls.

My wife doesn't want you all to do this

Or I could just let it go and retain an interesting story about a scam that might work on me when I am 95 years old.

My wife wants me to do this.

I had one more, that I use another phone, call them back and inform them that hidalgo wants to know where his 370 packages are and how these two scum managed to interecept them and that if they gave the packages back they would only have a one of their fingers cut off. BTW, I did some work locating them, for got sake they were using a magicjack. Loved the police scanners in the background though, nice touch.

Drop the number!! No... Wait... Damn it... You better listen to your wife. .... I think giving us HS dudes the number is the best idea. I use to love prank calls when I was young but now with all this technology might be bad idea

hmm..makes me wonder how they knew your activities online...
citizens are ordering meds overseas at increasing rates as they discover that the FDA is lying to them and the can get their blood pressure or antibiotics at a fraction of the cost. It is a good gamble for them.
