I Know What I Should Be Doing... I Think

I just wanted to introduce my setup, get a little critique, and possibly make you recoil in horror at how i mistreat my plants (sometimes).

First off I'm growing a strain called 'Summertime Buddha' from the toronto420 seedbank (If anyone has grown this before, do tell). I choose this strain because the website specifically said "designed to be abused by beginners". I bought 5 seeds and put them into peat pellets, then put them in a dark warm place. about 4 days later I noticed the first sprout and some investigative probing showed that all of the seeds had established a sizable taproot and everything was on the right track, so decided to remove the dome and put them out in the sun. A couple of days passed and I was getting worried because the last 4 sprouts still hadn't shed the cracked seed, a closer look showed that the seeds had dried out and become (perhaps?) to hard for the sprouts to deal with so i was able to pry the seeds off 2 of the sprouts but on the third one the entire "head" came off the plant and i decided to put the last one in a himidity tent and let it happen 'au naturale'... unfortunately it just got a fungus and died .

Then i was down to 3 sprouts but everything was peachy... until a heavy storm came out of nowhere, folded one of the sprouts like an accordian and flooded the tray they were all sitting in. I drained the tray and used the good ol' straw trick and was able to save the folded sprout however one of the other sprouts kind of decided to keel over (I still don't know why, looking closely i could see the stem rapidly shrank in diameter about half a cm from the soil and imediately regained is girth less then a mm above that).

Where I'm at now, I transferred the 2 survivours into seperate 5 gal. planters in Promix (a Ph stablized soilless medium). I water with distilled water only once the soil is completely dry, the last watering I added 1/4 strength miracle gro. Each sits a foot and a half under it own 'agro-lite' 150 watt halogen bulb. Duchess (the untouched one) is stretching to all hell, she's skinny, 7 in. tall and is just starting her 4th node. Isis (The accordian retard baby) is skinny as well, only 4 in. tall, struggling on her 3rd node and has yet to grow a leaf thats not mutated. (hopefully i can get pictures and you can tell whether or not they are really THAT bad)

I've noticed that they are growing really slow (I'm probably on my 4-5 week since germ. i can't remember) so I'm constructing a box 4 feet tall, and 2 by 3 feet. it will be lined with tin foil and I'll be ditching the incandescents as i know you are all itching to scream at me and adding 8-12 CFLs on a variable height ceiling as well as 2 70 watt HPS lamps i was able to acquire recently. as well I will be switching from 16/8 to 18/6 (I was turning the lights off when I went to bed because it's hard to sleep with 300 watts of light radiating around your head) it should be mentioned that I'm not entirely interested in yield as this is more of an experiment then an actual grow so I won't be spending big money on equipment or supplies so don't bother suggesting them (to date I've spent $50, $30 of which was on the seeds)

Thats it, so advise (or belittle) me how you will.
Peace

Loose the tinfoil Use white paint, No hot spots.
Love the Pro-Mix.
Hurry up and set up those CFL's/HPS's.
Good Luck and welcome to your new home. Once you start growing this site becomes a drug. And you keep coming back for a fix...

Thanks alot for the advise Shaman. I just finished cutting the boards for the box, I'll paint them tomorrow and I'll probably have the new lighting built by thursday. I haven't really seen anyone talking about general height/growth expectations, only seen pictures. any idea if I'm in a good range or am i severly lagging behind (as is my current impression).
