I just bought a Apogee MQ-500 quantum par meter! Any good videos?

I know "professional" growers who don't use any meter at all. They just set their lights at prescribed spacing and go worry about growing weed. Lol

for white spectrum lights the lux meter is more than good enough of an approximation to know you are near the par you want. And one thing it will definitely tell you is how even your coverage is just as a good as a par meter will. Either way you have to adjust the light to suit the plant.

I have an AK47 that turns out to be absolute garbage unless I give it so much light that same amount makes other plants sick. So either I think success is a mater of adjusting to your plants Needs.
These guys are running 10,000 square feet of lighted canopy in million dollar operations. Lol.

Your buddies are running how much now?

Hence the quotation marks hahah.
Truth is they still grow amazing weed and yield as much as anyone else. Meter or no meter.

And I love nerdy toys and gadgets. And will get a spectrometer/par meter combo when the cashish allows and it won't even be justifiable to my grow. It will neutron the sake of it and the fun.

Oh I hear you. The only reason I tried the phone app was beginning to mix lighting. Adding LED in addition to my HID fixed system. In fact if I could borrow instead of buy I would.

I use litmus paper for pH. A box of screwed meters. At least the little screwdriver that comes with them still works.

I do use an EC meter if grow calls for it. In the last 4 grows it hasn’t called for it.

Oh and I’m going ape shit preaching about the Inkbird controls. Incredible value and are great additions. Wish I’d had them years ago. Best money I’ve spent this year. Especially the humidistat. Indoor humidity here 6%-11% in winter. Humidifier either wasn’t getting it or it would get everything dripping. Not anymore. Set it and forget it. I’m in love.

I should be getting my quantum PAR meter in the mail today! So here is a question. If my plants are getting the correct amount of light intensity required, does it matter if my lights are higher/lower than manufacturer recommendations? And dimmer. does that matter what I dim to as long as the PAR readings are spot on?

It depends on how much spread you want. You can run a lot lower wattage be right up to the plants with the light. Or you can leave them high up and leave the wattage turned up. Weed can take a shocking amount of light during flower.

I brought my SQ 626 and still learning how to use it. I brought it because I didn’t want to do all those calculations and no more guessimations. For example, my plants on my veg table leaves was a little droopy could be a couple factors. I checked the par first and realized it was too high. Turned it down next day prayer city.. you can do a search through the threads and YouTube and find plenty of information

I think its great u got a quality tool for the job. Big whup if anybody donates to your grow its a drop in the bucket and a tool that cant be questioned as far as quality.

I agree with bk78 100%. Having finer things is good, not a point for argument. I havent seen a single person ask that it be compared directly to a phone and lux meter so....

PLEASE COMPARE TO PHONE APP AND LUX METER LETS FIND OUT THE DETAILS.

I bet there are places in the space where the PAR meter is much more accurate, that is my starting hypothesis.

I can run mine against a phone app if you need some clarity, don’t own a Lux meter though

Check this video out you might like it for par vs lux meter.

I use the cheap HydroFarmer. I honestly had only used it for one grow cycle about a year and a half ago. I haven't even moved my lights the past 2 grows. I kinda got it dialed in where they are good from clone to harvest. I instead, got the feel for it, and adjusted the legs on my trellis frame. As they stretch, i tie them down to the net for a couple of weeks. Spend your money as you see fit. I had more of a PH issue, and spent like $500 for an Apera spear probe unit, so that was a good investment for me, and I use it every day. They Hydrofarmer PAR meter?.. nah. It was good enough for me to figure some shit out, but now it just gathers dust.

I have a lux meter and a phone app lol! Everybody is one tool short of the 3 way comparison.

I would guess at the edge/fringe of the space the PAR meter will be way more accurate. Does spectrum change at all from center outwards?

Can you say that if one fell into your lap you wouldn't use it regularly in your grows?
got a box around somewhere of all the tools I don’t use regularly. Your plants will tell you what you need to know. All the lights also have published data so you know a good starting point. But it’s a cool gadget to have, it would make a fine addition to my collection.
