Hi guys,

i am trying to get my head around grams per watt.
if i harvest 10 ounce at the end of my grow from start to finish (from seed) using a 600 watt HPS how many grams per watt did i get?
My first grow i had 5 plants using a 6oo watt HPS and got 10 ounce of dried smoke is this a good yield??
Cheers guys

gram per watt: 600watts = 600grams. You got 10 ounces = 283 grams. 283/600= 0.47 grams per watt

yeah but the most i ever get is 12/13 oz tryed different ways sog etc, i think this is the most i can get out of a sq mtr.

I had 5 plants and each one produced 2oz, and they looked very healthy and the smoke was great but i have heard that some people can get over 1 gram per watt. Is that because they would put more than 5 plants under heir light?? Is 2 oz per plant a good yield?? my 5 plants were snow white nirvana.
Im just trying to get an idea of how much room for improvement there is within my set up
Thanks guys

How many times have you grown successfully? It really just comes down to experience. People on they're first bunch of grows should just worry about learning, not yield.

6 weeks flowering seems a little short for almost every strain I have ever grown.

I have had 3 or 4 seperate harvest now but this is my first grow that i have started from seed entirely myself...previously i was given small plants ready to flower or veg ect.
The reason in the past that i have harvested on week 6 is because read that once half the pistils on the plant start going brown then that is the best time to harvest??? Maybe next time i should wait the full 8 weeks untill all the hairs go brown??
My last grow (snow white) from seed 1 plant looked ready to harvest on week 5 all the hairs had gone brown where as the others that were next to them and germinated at the same time had no brown hairs but i think that must be due to genetics as they were not clones
Thanks for your advice guys

I'm on my first grow, I got 2 plants that are 2 weeks into their growth, and 1 that I just planted yesterday after it germinated. I'm using a 40w CFL red spectrum =/ light for one of the plants, and a 2 28w cool white CFL's for the other plant, and a simple 13w CFL for the one that is still in the soil, and once that pops out of the soil, I'll put a good light or 2 on it. Hopefully if the gram per watt thing works, I should get a couple ounces :D

600w should yeild a lb or better once you get your system dialed in. there is a grow journal around here by a guy named heath robinson that pulled over 3lbs from a 600w with a vertical system

you're harvesting wayyyyy too early...... look at the trics not just hairs.. all my hairs are golden brown red but clear trics, still got weeks to go on it yet.

I used less than a square meter, 6 plants, with a 600watt yielded 602 dried grams. As someone else said, 1 lb per 600 watt light is fairly easy to do with experience.

I use a Jeweler's Loupe - 30X to see the trichomes. I harvest around 25% to 50% amber trichomes. At this point you will also have cloudy and some clear trichomes. My Northern lights finish in 7 to 8 weeks. Snow White is more like 8 to 9 weeks flowering.

grams per watt isn't a good measure of efficiency.
-Grower #1 could run a SOG under a 600w and get a lb. with a total 8 weeks of grow time.
-Grower #2 could run a SCROG under a 600w and get a lb with 16 total weeks of grow time.

Both yielded .756 grams per watt. But grower #1 was twice as efficient with time. A much better measure of growing efficiency would be grams per kilowatt hour. GPW isn't the best way to measure the success of your grow.
