Hopefully, we're about to get some rain from a tropical system,........ just hope no hail and not too much wind! Last year we lost one plant in a storm, and it wasn't even a windy one. During Hurricane Harvey, one plant split three ways, but we "put it back together", and it didn't even seem to suffer at all .I often just eat it off the spoon an hour after dinner.
Good idea, and easier than any recipe I can think of .
My cholesterol is on the high side too but even the FDA has changed their thinking on that and have decided that higher cholesterol is healthier for older people and protective of their brains. The upsurge of Alzheimers over the last few decades is likely caused by the low-fat, low-salt crap we've been told the last 50 years.
My PCP just increased my Simvastatin (doubled it) since my cholesterol has gone from 175 to something like 373 in 1 1/2 years after being dx w/the high blood sugar. I've been really good at eating low carb, and have gotten my A1c down from 6.1 to 5.7 (it would have gotten lower this last time, but had a bad cough and they gave me cough syrup that had....you guessed it .. High fructose corn syrup. in it. I was so sick, I forgot to check it before I took it). But, eating that way had cheeses, cream, etc, and my cholesterol was just WAY too high. I'd like to find out about what the FDA's thinking is and the numbers they're satisfied with. I'm really sick about adding yet more medicine to my already large pill case.
I also am hypoglycemic and have a sweet tooth. Salty foods are not my fave and I rarely eat salty snacks other than cashews. I eat a lot of nuts but mostly raw ones like walnuts, almonds, filberts and love my raw pumpkin seeds. I'll mix a bunch of them together with real chocolate chips then add some pink salt that I've powdered. Nut meats are high in various minerals and good for my brain and prostate. Found out a couple years ago that my birth mother died at 75 after 10 years of dementia and hope to avoid that fate. Died 6 months before I made contact with my 5 half-siblings. They don't seem to want to have any contact and I think they think I showed up to grab a piece of the estate tho I had no idea our mother had died until I was told by the adoption reunion society that helped me make contact with them.
I eat a lot of nuts, too, since they're low in carbs. Everything I eat has to be weight (or guestimated), and nuts have a 1/4 cup serving amount. So, if I were to eat that, I'd be through with them by the time I sat down....so, I eat those I can with shells on so I can crack them open and take longer . My mom had dementia, too, and it concerns me that i'll get it early. Sorry you've had trouble with your half-siblings. It can be hard sometimes. My husband's mother just passed away in January, and his brother, who he's always gotten along with, has gotten greedy and started accusing my husband of cheating him out of things.....really sad what we do to each other.
I take no pharma or OTC drugs other than a small dose aspirin once in a while for my arthritis tho now that I have sufficient CBD cocobudder don't take that either. Doc wanted me too after the small stroke I had 5 years ago but he's the old fart that wanted me to have a prostate biopsy after an uptick in my PSA that I brought down by the next test 3 months later. Also cut off my demerol because of this opiod crisis crap even tho I only used 30 in 4 or 5 months for a bum shoulder. More for fun than necessity tho so I didn't bitch. Wanted me to take an anti-depressant called Cymbalta that has terrible side effects and is really hard to get off of. Also took a half hour trying to install a chest tube in me with no anesthesia when my right lung collapsed a few years back for the second time. Like being stabbed in the ribs with twisting repeatedly over and over again. The other docs around here have been just as bad tho there is a newer one I started seeing recently that seems to know his stuff and has the ladies all ga-ga over him.
Good for you on the pharma and OTC drugs! Unfortunately, I still take far too many. The cannabis helps my nausea, and the pain somewhat..... Fibromyalgia is really hard to find something that will get at that pain. It's stubborn! I also have migraines, and grew a strain last year that said it was good for migraines...I was really looking forward to some relief........ But, when I got a migraine and tried it for the first time, it didn't do a bit of good. I got on the forum under 'medical', and learned that smoking can actually make migraines worse! And, other forms don't seem to help either. They suggested psilocybin....I've looked into it, but haven't acted on it yet.
Pre-diabetes and type II can be controlled by diet and exercise and mainly caused by all the crap in our modern diets full of food-like substances instead of real food. High Fructose Corn Syrup is a leading culprit and is in almost all processed food these days. Even my old fave Campbell's tomato soup uses it now so no more Campbell's anything for me and I registered my disgust on their customer website. Save a penny a can by using HFCS instead of real sugar and contribute to diabetes and obesity.
You're so right. High Fructose Corn syrup is the worst and seems to be in almost everything. It's hard to stay away from, but I read every label and have taught my husband how....he does all the shopping since I'm too sick to do all of that.
I still weigh the same as I did as a teen and fit nicely into my 32" jeans. Full head of still red hair too so at least I got decent genes from my birth parents. Growing it out to donate to the cancer society for a wig. Half way down my back now. When I can sit on it it'll be time.
That's a great thing you're doing . Someone on chemo will sure be happy to have all that hair!
So, while I wait, I'll just play my Sudoku game on my iPad and listen to Procol Harum.....love that band! Interestingly, I had only heard the albums Shine on Brightly and A Salty Dog, and a few other songs until a little over a year ago! Then we saw a 2006 concert with the Danish Orchestra and Choir, and I ended up buying all of their music! MAGNIFICENT! and, Keith Reid can sure come up with some interesting lyrics, which were sorely missing on their last CD last year.
OH>. After I posted this, I noticed the print on my replies to your quote that are within your quote are in italics, so you can't tell what "I" wrote compared to what you wrote. On another forum. when you did that, your answers came out not in italics, so you could see it....anyway, try to read between the lines to see my answers ....sorry 'bout that .
Take care
