I believe they're gnats

My plants just turned a week old yesterday and I look in my box today and I see a bug crawling across the dirt extremely fast. I basically shat my pants and closed the box for a while trying to figure out what they were. I checked later on and now I see them flying around in there, they basically look like fruit flies. What do I need to get to kill them? I believe they came from the soil I bought.

nobody? I'm scared man, any help would be extremely appreciated

I believe you're scared but there's so little information we would be guessing. We would need pictures of the bugs at the very least. Anyway without further info I suggest you check this thread and see if you can see what you've seen. Anyway best of luck on this,

Well if they were gnats, what is the best way to kill them in RIU's opinion? And should I invest in azamax so some shit like this doesn't happen again?

All I can tell you is that they look like fruit flies. I don't have a camera good enough to take a picture and if I did I wouldn't be able to take a picture of it anyway as I'd probably smash it in the process of catching it. But here is a picture of a fruit fly to give you an idea of what it looks like.

gnats come free with evey bag of "organic" soil mix. unless its been sterylized. what timing! i just transplanted 5 gods into one gallons, with the new pro mix hp. it looks nice. and its supposedly sterile. however, this soil has no nutes in it. its all up to me. but i got tired of cooking my soil, to avoid gnats. i was using a product called "gognats". its cedar oil. i watered in with this, when transplanting. even cooking the soil did not get all of em. i had yellow stickiys, and the proof was on em. a few here and there. also, you can use 3% peroxide mixed in the water, and that helps. but, after leaning all this, im now simply "avoiding them". with a steril soil. if gnats can be in soil, so can worse things. i will say this. in over three years, gnats are all i have had. other than an occasionl "chewer", which is obviously not an issue. he needs to eat to. i think its a potatoe bug. lol. hope this helps. im not much more than a newbie even now, but i try to help.

Yes, they do come free with every bag of soil, Managing these bugs is more about reducing there numbers to a number that does not do much harm to your garden. As for controlling these little fuckers, if your plants are still in veg spray use a spinosad based product such as Captain Jacks Dead Bug Brew. Its non-toxic to humans, breaks down within a few weeks, and by the time your harvesting all the leaves that you sprayed it on will be either fallen off or thrown out. You should be aware the mode of action for this product is it requires the bugs to eat it and then they die so spray in on the the undersides of the leaves too and then wait 3-5 days and %97 of the little fuckers will be dead.
