i am really struggling with jillybean...

Hello weed nerds!

i am having a hell of a time getting a female jillybean, maybe some of you have some advise? my seed poping practice is as follows; i place my seeds in root riot cubes and put those into a nursery tray with a humidity dome on top. i have a heat mat but only use it during winter. the nusery tray goes into a grolab grow tent with 2 t8 tubes running 20 hours on and 4 hours off. once sprouted i put my seedlings into 2 gal pots of roots organis soil with a handful of supersoil mixed in the bottom. these go under a t5 fixture for about a week until i put them under a 600 metal halide. the plants stay in 2 gallon pots until they show sex at which point they get transfered to their final 10 gal pots. they veg a total of about 8 weeks. my results using this method have been great... until jilly. when i ran a 10 pack of chemdog from green house seeds i got 10 females. a 10 pack of plushberry gave me 7 females. a 10 pack of pandoras box gave me 6 females. a 5 pack of qrazy train gave me 4 females, and a 5 pack of vortex gave me 3 females. now , when i ran a 5 pack of jillybean i got 5 males. i said to myself "well this sucks, but hey, its nature, shit happens and every one has bad luck every once and a while, i will just try again!". with the second 5 pack i got 4 males and 1 hermie that showed female until about 8 days in flower and male flowers started to form quite clearly. i have had week 7 or 8 nanners before, but never a full blown hermie at any point. you guys think i got back luck twice? i very badly want to run this strain bases on the smoke reports i have read but im heasitant to shell out another 50 bucks plus supplies and garden space.... whatcha think?

don't use the heat mat. i germinate in a temp no higher then 72 without a heat mat and always get a high female to male ratio.

the heat mat is only used when temps drop below 70. the grow tent is in my michigan basement and easily drops below 60 once the weather turns. i have not used the heat mst with jilly, that info was just to describe my setup.

i guess my question is do others feel jillybean is a particularly finicky strain, its my setup/method flawed, or do i just have dogshit for luck?

Judging by your results with EVERY other strain you tried being good, I'd say you definitely got sold dud seeds.

dud seeds? could be but i doubt it. like farmered said every single one produced a plant, and the plants were vigerous and healthy, they just turned out to be 9 boys and a shemale.

I've Grown Jillybean from seed now 5 times she is very easy to grow and performs amazing in most mediums.

Finding the Candy Store Pheno thats stable is much harder

I got 3 females out of a 5 pack when i did jillybean. Not a finicky strain at all imho. Not really sure what the scoop was really. Try rapid rooters? Maybe some more folks will chime in, but i dont even use a dome. Just put them in rooters, under my t5's, and usually in less then 3 days, ive got mostly girls. ima go with dogshit for luck? Sucks balls though

welp, i think that based on my results with other strains and input from other growers that neither my methods nor finicky genetics are to blame here.... what dog shit! haha... i guess i will just have to run through a few other strains before i make a 3rd attempt with jilly. thank you fellow nerds for taking time out of your day to read this thread and post some help, much love for all!

yea, sounds like luck of the draw to me. im popping a 5 pack of jilly next, hopefully my luck will be better. that candy store pheno sounds so nice and hovering's amazing journal on it convinced me to go at em right away.

i ran ACE OF SPADES and there was 2 sizes of seeds, bigger and smaller, I dont know if u could of just got all one size seeds(if size determened sex)

This has nothing to do with the strain being finicky. Actually, with little effort on my part I pulled over 9oz off her under a 600w light without a single problem, biggest issue i had was just keeping up with her.

I think the OP just got shit luck, Jillybean is my go to strain right now, I like my others but I can smoke Jilly all day long and be happy.

I'd pick up another 10 pack in the future if I were you, but I feel your pain. I had a 10 pack of White Rino last year, I was super stoked. 8/10 germed, 7/10 were male & the female sucked balls. hermied @ 4 weeks. Shit happens.

I was soooooo excited to grow your genetics and am a huge fan but I have to say I just finished 8 strains, Jill included and both popped bannanas!! None of the others did... then checked my plushberry four weeks into flower and it had a little nanner not the top cola As well!! Soooooo sad... must say tho the Jill smells like orange cleaning fluid...most amazing smell out of every plant. I want to devout my future to this line if work as I see legalization on the horizon in NY so I am desperate for info... any advice or thoughts would be treasured

I have sinse found a Jilly pheno I enjoy very much

I find most hermis come from improper feeding, then light leaks, etc. When you have that many in one go it sounds like a nutrient/room issue.


Kane, glad you got one... like I said before I absolutely love mine. I have and entire room of it going right now.

I had no trouble with Jillybean. I popped two at 80F and got two males the first time. I then popped two at 70F and got two females. Neither tried to self-polinate in the last stage of flowering. Lovely plant, lovely smoke. Go JillyB!

jilly has been a staple in my garden and enjoy her very much. plush though has been hit or miss.
