How long do these things need for an accurate reading?

It usually takes 12 - 24 hours for the humidity to stabilize in the jar. Take out of the jar, spread them out until they feel dry on the outside again, then put them back in the jar for another day and check again. I keep doing this until after a 24 hr. period they still feel dry - then I open the lid for a few minutes everyday to let in fresh air for about another 2 weeks. Then I only open them about once a month. My cure is always good and I have never used a hygrometer.

Too wet, you're the the right thing, dump them. I use Boveda humipacks in my jars, they help to control and keep the jars at 62 you should google. Boveda. Great product

Thats part of the reason why i havent pulled the trigger... 2ant to know exactly how they work... also i would need 18 of them, which is a 100 bux...ouch...lol

Buy a few to start, buy the ones that say 62 they work both ways, keep the humidity up and down, I have some in jars dated to 2004 and it is still very fresh. It also depends if your looking for longtime or short term storage but either way getting a 4 pack at $1.25 each is well worth it.
