I am working on a DIY method Bubbleponics. I am new to hydroponics, I only want to grow one plant at a time. I want to use a 5 gallon bucket with 1 netpot, hydroton, air stone, rockwool cube, water pump, small hoses, and probably drill hole to drain. For the lighting im gonna use a 400 watt hps setup. I know the 400 watt is alot of light but i figure in the future i may implement more plants. I'm just looking for some help with nute mix and stuff for 5 gallons, and if anyone had any ideas on draining.(what they think of a system like this) Any help at all would be great!:weed:

Sorry guys when i said drain i ment. To change the water. I will use the airpump with the air stone. I want to use the 5 gallon bucket as the res. I didnt want to have to take off the lid to change out the water. So i thought maybe if i added like a drain system at the bottom side of the bucket is all. lol sorry bout the confusion

well how hard will it be to pop the lid off and empty the bucket? seems like an easier thing that having to deal with and make drains. but hey, it's your call!

you'll likely have leaks if not done properly. you can buy a male valve with threads, and use some rubber washers and a nut to put it together...

i'd rather pop the lid then dealing with that.. my 45gal res doesn't even have a drain. i pump the water out.

I would make a drain as a last resort only. I tend to have leaks when I go drilling into the buckets and adding gromits and hose. Just lift off the lid and dump. this way you can use a spare bucket already to go. When you take of the lid with the net pot and plant attached, just put into the new bucket with your nutes and water and your set. No rinse out the old one and your good to go next time.

out of a 5 gallon bucket I would just pour it out and put the lid on a different bucket while you do so. I had a 18 gallon setup and pumped the water out, man was it a lifesaver!!

I use two five gallon buckets stacked for my mothers. Drill holes in the bottom of the top one and in the lid of the bottom. Run the pump hose out the top side of the bottom. Works great, really easy to change your nutes.

I'd throw at least four girls under that light though.

Best of luck to you!
