Hello all,

I am new to the whole farming or plant care. How should I classify the system I have built... would this be aeroponics or hydro.. I thought aero and my last question for now... I am growing tomatoes first to get used to how everything works... I was told that tomatoes are pretty close to the same care needed as bud is this true?

The system you are using would be considered aeroponics. I have heard that tomatoes are pretty close to bud, but I can't confirm that with first-hand experience.

well, the first thing I want to learn is all the prob. and bugs that come with the system being able to support plants.... like leaks and what not. Have already solved the leak prob. put a drain plug on it to make things easier and getting ready to hang the light.... I figure tomatoes are cheaper and much less risk and if the system can support the tomatoes then it will be ready for the real thing.

That's a good point, but the best way to prepare yourself for growing MJ is to grow it. If you don't want to drop a lot of money on seeds from a bank, get some seeds from a bag of regs and grow those. The system will support the plants, you will just need to give them the nutes they need (aero uses reg strength for nutes), light, and pest control. I'm not saying you have a bad idea, but when your first grow is over would you rather have sandwich fixings or several nice bowls of greens?

I thought about adding an air stone however, I also know that the water falling from the sprayers back into the res. puts O2 into the solution. And I also thought the fact that the roots are not submerged in the water too allows them to get the O2 they need. Is this information incorrect? I also had a question about the temp. can you use a heater for aquariums in your res.? I have it set to 72 degrees.

Lower the temp if you can to 68,

The roots will be in the drink before you know it, they grow fast in ideal (that's the whole point) conditions.

To grow good perfect looking tomatoes you have to water them in a just the right amount, not too much, the toms will have stretch marks (brown lines) on them and too little the will not grow very big, not anything like pot BTW.

Good luck and I would not call your system aeroponics only because true aero is high pressure misters, like 80 psi, that mist the roots in such small increments that the roots are in air more than water, JR

Well not sure about the whole before I know it.... They have been in the system for almost two months now and the roots aren't really all that big... they are growing, and more and more are showing up every day but the longest root only stretches maybe four inches from the bottom of the net pot. I have used a mixture of honey and water and applied that to the roots (I think the roots are behind where they should be), and if this doesn't show something by the end of next week going to look into adding a rooting hormone to the nutes. This picture was taken within a week of posting.

oh yeah, I can not speak of roots other than mj, I would have guessed it's all about the same but who knows, are your roots white with lots of little hair, or fish bone roots? I would love to see them. I have never heard of using honey on your roots, could you please explain, Thank you......JR

I am very inexpierienced with this growing. Part of why I am starting off with tomatoes. I am not sure what you mean by fish bone roots... will take a picture today and post it tonight... as far as the honey I read in more than one forum that if you take two cups of boiling water and add a tablespoon of honey allow the mixture to cool you can then use that on the roots or use it as a rooting hormone. Also I hear willow tree sap and a tea made from the bark can help as well.

I would go ahead and grow some regs. This way you learn to grow weed, with some luck you can smoke it when your done.

In addition I don't really have a place to grow illegals... I rent the tiny apt. I live in, where the landlord could come in whenever... no backyard and don't really want to buy a hide grow box... like the computer tower thing.... just starting out and want to get the hang of certain things before I get more into it with herb

Here are more updated pictures I think the honey is working well with the roots they have shown much improvement in the last week since I applied the honey.... and using the distilled water looks to be working better too.... these pictures were all taken today.... so... like I said I am still learning how do these look overall
