Humidity and the role it plays ??

:leaf:Okay, now I'm livin here in Montana and its a pretty dry climate especially in the winter. I've heard the humidity should be runung pretty high around 70%. That makes me wonder what role humidity is playing

Humidity in my growing rooms been runing about 30%. I'm thinkin  I should probably raise that up and figure perhaps a vaporizer in the chambers on a timer. Will it work and will I see a benefit ?

The only real circumstance under which you want a high relative humidity is to help clones retain their moisture and stay healthy for long enough to root. Most people use a dome to achieve a humid environment for rooting cuttings, and some growers have applied this practice for starting seeds as well despite that there isn't any benefit. High humidity can be especially detrimental during seed germination and late in flowering. Fungus thrives in warm, humid conditions and seeds/seedlings are easy targets for damping off in particular. Mold spores are everywhere. High humidity during flower contributes to bud rot (botrytis) diseases. Powdery mildew is another common disease that appears on both foliage and buds.

Anything lower than 30% you should be concerned. On the other end, 70% is way too high, and will rot the hell out of your beautiful girls. Optimal humidity I've found is in the 40-50% range. For most strains, 30% is bearable. Are you growing hydroponically? Having a reservoir in the room will increase humidity for sure.

Cool.. + reps to the both of you.. I run right about 28% as a rule and do have a lil dome for eh clones made from a plastic cinnamon roll container I got with my walmart cinamon rolls.. works great.

And hell ya blue.. didnt even think about it.. I have the old hydro set up still and enough room to place the rexivoir in the chamber and run the bubbler an hour or so a day. Thx again bro

Flushed my ladies last night and left a foil pan in the grow closet to catch the last of the run off...there wasn't that much in there today, but the humidity WAS higher than it has been by over 5%. Seems like sure proof that even putting a pan of water in with your plants will help to increase your humidity level - no need to go high tech unless you have a really bad issue with dryness. I'm usually between 20-25% now while in flowering (which is fine as it will limit chances of mold). My levels were from 30-40s in veg with no issues that I noticed. The number will go up when watering and when the temp drops at lights out, which you will see if you have a meter that records highs and lows for you.

Its real dry around here in winter too, my humidity is in the lower 30's most of the time and ive never had a problem with it, are you experiencing problems because of it? If anything it tends to increase increase resin production.

I agree, I never had any problems with low humidy. One grow had about 20% from seed to harvest, and no problems.

Of course, not ideal levels. But to me, it seems humidity is not that important, maybe keeping it constant is what really counts (the plants adapt).

couldnt be botherd reading the posts above me but im almost a qualified horticulturist (3 months to go !) and i can tell u 30% is fine for weed. plants only really do well in high humidity when there seedlings or if your clonning, other then that when your have winter it helps to keep them in a greenhouse for the heat the humidity is just what comes with it. if u have high humidity u run the risk of dieseses, pests and also it slow your plants from transpiring.

nah mrdrywall i dont know where u heard that from but u want your room at about 30=40% the whole grow , ,veg or flower it doesnt matter.

Well I guess I don't have a problem aftew all. The easiest kind to fix. I have heard that in veg between 40-60% flower @ 40%. The reason I was trying to maniualate it at all isnt becauze of a problem but rather thought it may affect the density of my finished bud. anyrate. appreciate the help all.

Be carefull not to overfeed with low rh....the plants burn easier with low rh. From what I have experienced.

Good advice I feed reduced raes with every watering . Hasnt been a problem as of yet. Main thing I was looking to do ws just optimize my humidity thinking perhaps it would help with crop density or some other noticeable realized benefit in bud.

jorge cervantes high times video and a couple on here, doesnt matter im stickin with what works for me i ran the humidity where he said almost 2 yrs ago and had bad bud mold on the bigger buds
