Just finished doing some HST this morning. Really my goal here is to keep the canopy nice and even as well as I can. So far it seems to be working pretty well. All have been topped, some more than once. I am bending the the stems without breaking until they feel soft and rubbery where I need them to bend. If there is a break, I just patch it with some heavy duty clear tape and move on to the next branch. AE64FD97-180F-4D98-A0FE-A5C015E9B3C8.jpegHere is a pic from after this morning’s HST session. As you can see, they are all close to the same height to begin with, and once the stems are bent they are all even. This should allow the lower branches that are not bent a chance to grow upward, while the bent stems recover. Once they recover and adjust themselves, the tops of the plants should be level.

This the first time I really used the HST method. I’ve done lst, it’s mostly the same but hst is more intense from my understanding.
 
This time I’m really just trying to squeeze/bend/manipulate branches almost to the point of breaking without actually doing any exterior damage. Had 2 breaks, but it happens. One I patched up with some tape but the other was too damaged so I took a clone instead of trying to patch it.
 
@PadawanWarrior thanks. I have heard great results from other growers bout supper cropping, although i would like to give mainlining/manifolding a shot. Only downside is the added veg time but I have seen a few growers posting great end results.

Manifolding is my favorite, but takes a little more work and time. Manifolding with supercropping is awesome too. The last few rounds I just let them grow naturally without toppings or anything. I've been getting lazier and lazier. I did do a little LST and lollipoping though.
 
This is what we are looking for right here. Look closely at the stem pictured and u will notice a small “knuckle” starting to form at the site where the plant was bent/squished. This will harden once it is given time to repair itself, creating a thicker/stronger stem that has been manipulated to go in whichever direction we are training it to go.5A1905A8-C9D1-492D-9146-DDFEAC10CD34.jpeg
 
I've been supercropping for years. It's my goto training method because it's so simple. Just pinch and bend. I get pretty brutal with the plants on occasion but they don't seem to care. They'll pop right back up within a day sometimes if you don't crush and bend enough. Sometimes it's hard to get them to bend on larger branches so you have to really work at crushing and bending them up sometimes causing a tear here or there. It doesn't seem to cause anything other than some cosmetic damage.

That works great for training. I drill holes sometimes and make double ended hooks with solid wire. One end goes in the holes I drill on the side of the pots and then I bend down the branches and bend the wire over to hold them down. It works great for topping and training at the same time. Although I usually just supercrop the main top rather than cutting.

There are a ton of ways to train a plant. With practice and experience you can get all of them to perform very good. I like supercropping and tying down as it doesn't slow down the process as some other methods do. I know mainlining performs well and makes for some really spectacular looking plants. It just takes more time than I want to spend training a plant.

See that’s what I’m saying, the only thing that’s held me back from mainlining is the extra time it takes. Don’t get me wrong I have patience and the results look great, but so far it has been too much time for me to dedicate for one grow. I will get to it eventually.
 
Same reason I’m not running any of the haze or tropical sativa strains I enjoy rn. I definitely can’t dedicate 16-21 weeks of bloom for a single harvest lol. Not yet at least... really would like to try a few like a nice old school Thai, or Old Timer’s Haze, Dr. Grinspoon, Panama x Haze, Malawi, etc...
