Hps trouble!! help please

my plant is set for flowering now and i took your advice to get an hps. i bought one from home depot and it did not work, i returned it and got another one and that one wont work either, (i got 100w ones by the way). do they need a special outlet or something? since my home depot does seem to have any other good ones (they all rattle in the boxes) what other lights are good for flowering?

the reason it wont work is because you need a 100w ballast and then it will work i had the same probolem but with a little help i got it sorted

Home depot wont cut it bro. Trust me that was the first place i looked too. The HPS ballast and reflector are all built in because its intended use is for security lights or flood lights on the side of your house. You might be able to get a converter for it but i'm not sure and 100 watts isn't enough. Just go to your local nursery or hydroponic store and they will have the hook up on anything and everything you need. Go to foxfarmfertilizer.com and click on where to buy and click your state and it will bring up local hydroponic shops in the state, find one nearest to you and SHAZAAM!! your on your way to a good grow. I will let you know ;however, they will be more expensive than your home depot selection. go for the metal halide/HPS conversion ballast... saves money. hope this helps you bro, if you have any other questions you can PM me or just leave it in the thread. go on ebay type in HPS ballast and get the phillips 100watt ballast thts the one that i got its arriving tommorrow both times i have got them ballasts (a ballast is a thing that helps the plug socket cope with the 100w that electricity that will be given to your light) I THINK

i would also go with the 400 watt ballast.. good starter and conserves electricity. failed to mention that.. my apologies.. Ebay has them for around 150 bucks.. but dont waste your time on 100 watts bro, im telling you, you wont yield as much and your buds wont be as potent and compact. how many plants do you have? what strain? what light did you use in veg?

Can You Use A 400 Watt Ballast With A 100 Watt Hps Bulb???

ehh.. I'm not completely sure. Part of me would think yes because its less wattage but part of me would say no because i think you have to have the same wattage..
