HPS or MH throughout entire grow?

a buddy of mine is kinda new to growing and he just uses an mh, id say his results are pretty nice!

Primarily hps.

MH is nice to supplement the hps for greater resin production.

i use a mix spectrum also. during vegging i use a few 2700 cfls and during flower i use some 6000 cfls

I plan on using MH for Veg and HPS for Flowering. I want to get some side light also a mix of Red/Blue CFLs.

New one on me. The conventional wisdom seems to indicate MH are best for vegging because they mimick the bluish color of spring sunlight while the reddish colors of the HPS more closely resemble the light of the late summer sun when the plants would normally expect to mature if left to their own devices out doors. As far as I know plants will grow toward any reasonable light source. I've got a switchable MH/HPS set up but havent been using the MH much as I have been vegging under CFL and finishing with HPS. Seems to work about as well as fiddling with changing the bulbs and timers etc. Several factors influence tall spindly plants such as a failure to top and Fim tie em over or super crop em etc. I'm trying super cropping on this round. Seems to be working ok and no need to mess with string and such things. They are hugging the floor fairly well. Now I do run a 5% UVB light for about 5 or 6 hours a day. That supposed to make em stronger in the THC department cause it make em think they are hanging out around the equator. I tried a 10% UVB bulb but seemed like that burnt the snot out of em. I was afraid to run it more than about an hour per day. Then it got broke so that was 20 bucks down the tubes.
