so my autos are growing and started flowering and throwing out some pistols i noticed only yesterday but the long white hairs, Oh im so proud......... but i have two cheese plants in the two 10 gal pots the 9 weeks until the autos get chopped! i want to change from MH to the HPS for the autos to finish up and get the red spectrum and create the nice tight buds, how will the reg fem cheese plants i have growing in the back, be affected will it flower from change of bulb? the light cycle will be still 20/4, just seems more lumens from the HPS, and I kno itll cause stretch but im just thinking now i dont want flowering, but let me hear some expert thoughts here lol , thanks everyone ahead of time

Seems to me like your asking if the HPS will cause your reg girls to flower also. And if thats the question then the answer is no, they will however show their sex or show preflowers after 1-2 months vegging.
And from what i've read the light spectrum from an HPS will cause your reg girls to stretch more in veg, but I have no idea if that would negatively affect yield in the long run. Personally I would just flower out the autos with the MH because an auto will bud out perfectly fine under the blue spectrum since that is what they would normally recieve outdoors when the days are longer. And also because pictures come out so much better under MH light than HPS

thanks for a post lol, i kno hps makes buds nice and hard and causes the stretch, but i dont mind as the two cheese are in 10gal pots and gonna get 9 weeks of vegging, i just never switched spectrums in middle of grows without switching light time also, i am looking for if they will stay in veg stage?!!

Yes they will stay in veg state, changing the spectrum of the lights wont do anything to make your reg girls flower out now. They will keep vegging until you flip the lights to 12/12. Good luck on the grow! And looking forward to seeing pics =)

Yeah, I agree. I have vegged under my 400watt HPS and I haven't seen too much stretch. that rumor definitely comes from the finicky guys that notice every little new node....lol And now, it really won't affect your yield,to a reasonable extent. Simple logic tells us a plant receives more food, more efficiently, with bigger, thicker, and healthier stems,( as well as the proper ph, lights, nutrients, blah blah blah). A plant like Mexicancandy is holding in that picture, That plant could have stretched a few inches and it really wouldn't have done anything to his yield but spread the bud sites out...

Bottom line. If an HPS is what you got, go for it. You use a Metal Halide for vegging, not because the hps is BAD for vegging, but because the blue spectrum promotes luscious, green, leafy growth, which, when utilized properly, can create a shitload of bud sites. Check out my journal. those OG kush clones grew for only a few weeks under a 400 watt metal halide, with some ESPOMA organice nutes and a 3/3/3 mixture of pearlite, vermiculite, and soil. Not very complicated...lol

thanks for the post so far, i might just stick with the MH throughout the autos lifes, i dunno yet if im gonna switch to the HPS for the autos flowering and the 2 cheese still veg, im looking for more peoples thoughts

Now that I think of it the plant in my pic was actually vegged for only two weeks under a red spectrum cfl with very little strech, and then put outside to flower. Hopefully more people comment on this because I to am curious about peoples experiences with vegging under HPS vs. MH
