Hps bulbs not working in my hood???

Hello all this is my first post although iv been getting advice from here for a while now thanks a lot My problem is I have a 600w air cooled hood that i had used a few times now and on my last grow just in flower it went through 3 new hps bulbs but before this I never had a problem so had to just stick with mh bulb which was absolutely fine hps bulb would last maybe 5 days then check plants an the light ain’t come on take hps out an mh back in fire straight up I have done this before and no problems can’t get my head around it tbh any ideas guys?? Thanks again

Are u changing the ballast from mh to hps? It should have a switch on it

Just had to check lol an no there is a reset button and it does say for mh and hps bulbs and iv defo swapped bulbs out before with no problem but last grow the thing was eating hps bulbs every week... use up 3 and went back to hps for probs last 6 weeks of flower without a hitch my yields did suffer tho thanks for the reply

Sounds like the ignitor circuit in the ballast is shot or malfunctioning. Can you get another ballast to test the bulbs with and if they still work on that then it's the ignitor part of the ballast not firing the bulbs. With my magnetic ballasts that's how you figure out if it's the ignitor. If an MH bulb will fire up OK then it's the ignitor is gone. They use the same type of coil and capacitor but HPS needs the ignitor.

I just got my first digitals. 600W Light EnerG ACE. MH/HPS, dimmable. 3 ballasts with hoods and Hort. Super HPS all lightly used for $180. A 4th bulb for $20 more. Just wanted two but for that price I'm grabbing spares. Got two for a buddy as well. Flowering a big Hindu Kush in a vertical SgroG with one now.

Thanks guys I do have another ballast so I will try with that one and see if all’s well when I get set up..... also do u think my light would be ok in a 2ft wide 3ft deep space ?? Thanks guys

A 600W lamp in that space will be fine, but it will generate a lot of heat you'll have to deal with.

Regarding the bulbs not working... are you certain you're getting 600W rated bulbs?

That’s what I like to hear thanks fella and yes bought from local grow shop so I would hope so lol
