hps and cfls

i know dis been probaly posted mad times but i figured mayb we can get some new info on cfls and hps. a friend of mine swear by cfl lol n i was wondergin cus he orederd of the net a 200 watt cfl equal to 850 incadesent bulbs so now he say is jus as good as a 400 watt hps n i no dis is wrong i mean i neva used a cfl during flower but i have used a 400 n now im using a 600 hps n i no das impossible for a 200 watt bulb to outrun a 400 hps in flowering plz anybodys 2 cents would b great thanks

I was growing with a 200W CFL that produced 12,500 lumens but I can tell you right now that I wouldnt be seeing the growth I am now, using a 400W HPS. Its good for about 1 or 2 small-ish to medium size plants at best

CFLs are great for getting light where you need it. You just don't have that kind of flexibility with a big hot HID bulb. I used straight CFLs for veg and added HPS for flowering. My grow is still in progress but my sig shows just how tight and bushy you can get plants with CFLs.

I agree, although a HPS will always beat a CFL I still use a CFL for veg ~ I might try using my HPS for both veg and flower on my next grow tho.
