hprs grow light

hey everyone,im buying a new hps grow light and wondering whats the diffrence between a reg hps grow light and a hps grow light setup that is air cooled and is it worth getting and what does it exactly do? thanks in advance

What you're talking about is referred to as a cool tube. It goes over the light so you can suck the air from around the light directly out of the room. You can get the light closer to the plant resulting in denser and higher quality bud.

They are worth it but I'm not quite sure if you still need a wing reflector or not with it although I'm sure it wouldn't hurt

with the cool tube you're going to need a blower fan. Give a little more info about your grow space like dimensions, where the air intake and out take are located etc.

With the cool tube you're going to need a fan. I suggest at least 150 CFM if you're cheaping out, but ideally, aim for mid to high 200 CFM. Remember the idea of the cool tube is to remove as much as the heat out of the room as possible so you need a place to throw the air that isn't in the room. Maybe you can put a hole into another room and cover it with a cabinet on the other side. The cabinet could hold your carbon filter and nobody would think about it.

The cool tubes are nice but I like the bigger reflectors that look like a normal reflector but have intake/output on each end. Serves the same purpose but IMO is a better reflector than the tube style. I would also recommend the S&P TD 125 for a fan. It's rated for nearly 200 cfm, is cheaper than most inline fans, and is quiet as hell. It made a huge difference in my temps. Before, I had the closet door open with a good fan blowing in and a passive outlet into the attic. Now I have the s&d fan in the attic attached to the vent tube pulling air through my light and the door stays closed. I added a small vent to the door for a passive intake. My temps were in the upper 90s before the inline fan, and now run in the low 70s just pulling air in from the room.
