First you need to learn what that strain likes. Every strain is different. Some like more acid soils, some like to be kept dryer. It just takes time to figure out what your strain responds well too. Just remember, the advice some people will give you will work great for their plants with their set up, but not so well with your. It's just a plant, there are no super secrets or anything.
