How will the cannabis legalization initiatives impact the Mexican cartels?

I think short term it would just fucking destroy them. Power shifts, etc.

But what becomes their next gig? The ultimate goal is weapons and money and land, so they need a commodity to acquire those. It needs to be something that cost little to acquire, and sells for high dollar on the other end. If pot really is 60% of their income, they are going to be in a hurry to replace it, if the market does indeed collapse around them because of legalization, which I think it would. Their weed sucks. I don't know who is buying all that shit making them rich but it isn't me.

My bet is they ramp up human trafficking. Pot is an easy sell, I don't know if they could push other drugs successfully enough to replace their pot sales. But humans, either to fuck, torture, work or kill....there's never enough of those when you need them.

Fuck and work, maybe. Where is the profit in "torture and kill"?

I think the cartels are going to have a hard time replacing their pot business.

Probably gonna replace it with meth/cocaine. They already distribute those as we speak. I think they'll just focus more on the harder drug market.

Maybe so, but how do you bump up sales in those markets? I would think those markets are already saturated.

Sell people for others to torture and or kill. Some people have the drive to kill, just not the means or ability to put a person in the positition their crazy fantasy desires. But for 50k, I'll tie them up and you can do whatever, lol.

Indeed, I don't think they can ever replace it. Just guessing though, I bet they couldn't replace 20% of their pot profits without massive expansion in other areas, and even then....who's gonna be buying all these harder drugs that they would be trying to sell? I just dont see meth going ms anytime soon.

A new drug might get some profits, but yeah, I don't think the harder drugs will see much, if any, increase.

Nothing will happen until weed is decriminalized completely, aka federally.

One of my buddies lives in caborka Mexico and shows me pictures of vans stuffed full of heads, torsos, lower bodies. He also informs me about how the cartel has the government and government officials in their pocket due to shear fear.
It's nasty over there, so dont for one moment think they wont fight to maintain dominance on marijuana drug trade.

The problem we have is that ganja is still illegal, so people still go and buy from the mexicans for 1500/lb and then go sling them to the compassion clubs for 3k, making a solid 1g each lb they flip. This profiting from the sale of weed from mexico is exactly why the cartel will just continue to plow ahead. I watch this happen EVERYDAY here in AZ. I even know some kids who are making easy money picking up 10lb from cali for 15k, and driving it back here and making 15k in a day... Until there is no black market for weed, violent individuals will always maintain power.

Obama's justice department should be ashamed of themselves. We have an attorney general (Eric Holder) that's out of control
