Two Critical Mass ladies from Mr. Nice standing about 4.5 ft tall at the end of week 3 of flower. Under a 330 watt Growcraft X3, in 30 gallon totes, organic grow utilizing DTE dry amendments.

Thoughts?
Nice looks great dude.
I have some bio-fish I like the DTE dry stuff.

Very nice, how long did you veg for?

Looks like they must've had a nice stretch the past few weeks and are gonna start packin on the weight!!

Haha these ladies have had an interesting life...

Short answer is I think about 4-5 months lol

I can't really remember to be honest but I think I planted these seeds back in June or early July...we had a sunny summer and I left them in a windowsill in some 2.5" x 2.5" pots for a while. They got super leggy before I transplanted them into 5 gallon pots probably about a month later...in their 5 gal pots I mainlined the one in the back to 4 tops and the one in the front is actually a clone from that same plant...so yeah they were in the 5 gallon pots for a longggg time...got super rootbound cause they were standard plastic pots. About 5 weeks ago I transplanted them into the 30 gallon totes...hacked the rootballs up watered em in and let them get settled in for about 1.5 weeks then flipped the switch...I think that math mostly works out...

Thanks dogg!

DTE has been good to me. I've used their standard 4-4-4 and 4-8-4 for autos but for these once I transplanted into the totes I used a custom 1.3-6.3-6.3 mix I made with their blood meal, seabird guano, and Langbeinite.

When you transplanted em the 2nd time I bet the roots felt so good, especially goin into 30 gallon totes, like undoing their belt buckle after Thanksgiving dinner! Lol, roots were probably wrapped around a few times just like a belt buckle I bet! Haha

Its crazy how the roots can grow, this outdoor season I let a couple plants go all the way in 5 gallon fabric pots, they got so big I ended up having to water them twice a day in the hottest weeks! After the chop i let them sit for a week or two, when I tried to dump the dirt it was just all roots! The roots grew through every square inch of soil, the whole thing was solid, tougher than leather. After hacking at it with an axe for like 2 minutes (with like no progress lol) I gave up and just buried em upside down lmao

There's one of the only pics I took of the plant, wish I took one of the rootball though!

Hell yeahhh they must have loved it haha. Felt a little weird hacking up the roots tbh but I think it really helped get new roots reaching out into the new soil. Within two days I noticed small feeder roots 6-8" from the rootball. Which when I transplanted was definitely like you're describing, no soil, just roots!

And you mentioned a stretch earlier but oddly enough there was not really much or a stretch at all...maybe 8-12 inches. Any idea if this is normal? Seems like something that would happen if they were rootbound so idk maybe there were some residual effects of being rootbound?

Nice looking plant by the way. I like the structure. Did you top it a few times? Also did that fabric pot do what its supposed to and "air prune" the roots? I guess did you notice if there were any large roots circling the pot when you took that axe to em lol

Depending on how old they were and veg size before going into flower can affect the stretch. 8-12 inches is definitely normal, they'll keep stretching a bit more as they flower out.

Thanks for the compliment, I did 2 major rounds of topping, some lst to keep it bushy, didnt want it getting too tall in the pot, still ended up at 6 feet lol.

The pot did exactly what it should and air pruned the roots, wasn't root bound at all. You could see where all the roots would poke out of the soil on the sides and bottom, just the tips, and just stop. I'm thinking if somehow due to the air pruning it possibly causes some changes in the rhizosphere of the plant? I dunno, I have a few theorys, might just have to dig up those root balls, run a science experiment haha

Damn, and that plant is 6' tall?! Its so hard to get a sense of scale in the pics. That must've been a fun grow even if it wasn't as discrete as you hoped haha.

Good looks, I def need to get some fabric pots to keep that root system rippin. From my understanding, with the air pruning induced by the fabric pot, more lateral roots form just like when you top a shoot. Having more of these smaller roots instead of a rootball bound up with larger unhealthy/dying roots allows the root system to more efficiently take up water/nutrients. Do you mean changes in the rhizosphere other than this? Like perhaps changes to the microbiota? I'd imagine there'd be a difference in species composition between the two situations but really haven't looked into it at all.

Lmao so true about the sense of scale, I coulda sworn your plants looked like they were 6 footers when I first clicked the pics.

The fabric pots are tons of fun, they will def be indoor only from now on lol, I swear I watered them more than all my other plants indoor in plastic and fabric, plus the outdoor ones that were in the ground!

You were dead on with what I meant with the rhizosphere. I imagine there would be a difference with the microbes due to the presence of what seems like WAYYY more roots than there would be in a normal pot.

Been smoking some Carl Sagan lately, so, in the name of science, I dug up what I could find!!! lol. Took me a while to find one, my husky been digging up so many holes lately, I think he might have dug one up cause there was a bunch of perlite everywhere.

First 2 pics are what was left after I pulled it out the hole

Pic 3 I threw it in the hole and gave it a chop with the shovel, brushed it up

Last 2 pics are the root ball that was directly attached to the stalk, pics of both sides

Mind you this was a clone!!! Maybe next year I'll transplant a fem seed from solo cup to a 50 gallon fabric pot super soil and see what happens lol wonder if it would beat the ones in the ground haha

LOL FOR SCIENCE! Thanks Carl Sagan!

That's wild you didn't have to go dig up those old root balls but its actually mad interesting so fuck yeah appreciate it bud! A ton of smaller roots...hardly any of the larger pencil width roots are seen at the edge or very deep. Def aligns with what I've read but having never used fabric pots its def cool to see.

You gotta do a super soil 50 gal fabric pot next summer haha. Veg a seed for like 4 months before transplanting it out too hahaaha honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it beat the ones in the ground.

Thinking about your rhizosphere question, I could def see the fabric pot situation being more conducive to hosting root associated beneficial microbes. More numerous, smaller roots means more surface area to hold exudates or be colonized by bacteria.

BIG thank you man! You pretty much inspired me to do it, once you mentioned the roots, it started a chain reaction of events that led to this. The universe guiding me through the next level of tha........aw man what the hell am I talkin bout now? Somebody stop me. The Carl Sagan got me floatin off to the 4th dimension, shyyyyyyyyyit lmaO

I'm gonna have to do it, no choice now lol, Feb. 1st Im dropping the seed in the dirt, has to happen. 50 gal Fabric pot. supersoil. The sky's the limit! For science!! Haha

You hit the nail on the head with the rhizosphere, exudates were probably shooting out all kinds of shit trying to make everything more soluble to get the most out of every nook and cranny of the soil.

Been intrigued about roots since I pulled my first carrot as a kid. Love foraging for dandelion root, burdock root, bunch of other stuff, I never take too much, just enough...especially with the roots cause it kills the plant, if its big I only take half.

I'm really big on not wasting any part of the plant, use the roots, stalk, branches, fan leaves, and of course the best part, the buds!! Juice the fan leaves, or roll a cannablunt, whatever you can come up with. If you harvest the roots and roast em, grind em up and use it like you would coffee, its good. I dont consume too much of the root, read somewhere overuse could lead to toxicity build up, makes sense cause of how much cannabis can absorb from the ground, maybe some kinda alkaloids too. Haven't had any noticeable negative effects myself.

My bad for this being so long, lol don't hate me. I had to put my phone down like 10 times to do a bunch of shit, started typin like 2 hours ago damn time flys.

Here's a little somethin special for anybody who made it all the way to the end of this long ass reply lol

Lets fucking goooo!! I love it! Keep us posted on this monster fabric pot grow hahaha. Gonna be epic. Do you have a super soil recipe that has worked well for you? I haven't tried any yet, just doing organic dry amendments with a few teas in the summer, URB in the winter.

I feel ya about using all parts of the plants. When I defoliate I keep the leaves and blend them up into smoothies...my friends think I'm ridiculous but they'll put spinach or kale in their smoothies? Cannabis leaves taste 1000 times better and are packed with iron and micronutrients too...

I haven't heard about roasting the roots sounds wild though...so does it give you a boost like coffee or you just prepare it like coffee/tea? Usually I compost them so they don't go to waste either. Fuckin heavy metals and other contaminants in the soil are do depressing to think about...we're poisoning our earth...

Fuck lets keep things light lol I'd love to hear about any super soil mixes you've tried!

Will definitely keep you updated!! Gonna have to push it to the extreme, 200 gallon pot??!!!!!! A lil pricey, but that's not even the real issue. How the hell would I even fill it? Gonna have to rent a backhoe! Maybe build a hoop house to veg it and take off the hoop when it hits the roof, cause ain't no way I'm movin a 200 gal pot from indoor to outdoor, shyyyt I'd have to rent a forklift and break a wall out the house to do it! A lumberjack to cut it down, one of those commercial bud trimmer machines that cost a quarter mil to trim it. With my luck it would clog the machine, or worse, somehow the seed gets mixed up before delivery and its really a dwarf auto.

Been a long ass time since I made some super soil, really great stuff. The only recipe I've ever done is Subcool's, it's solid, everything that could be said about his recipe has pretty much been said, so I'll just leave it at that. Keep feeding it and it'll last forever. Even he said he tweaked it every now and then, like anything, change is constant. Learn, Change, Progress, Grow.
To me, composting is the most crucial longterm, sustainable way to return plant and animal matter back into the soil in a way that's incredibly beneficial, to naturally improve the soil and turn it into a living, breathing, life producing miracle. The craziest part is knowing the stuff most people throw in the garbage can actually be used to grow you more food!! I could go on for days about soil, but my shits already long as a fuk when it comes to these posts lmao.

For anyone new to growing (obv not you Geneiac, but hey I been doin this for half my life and still follow the advice I'm about to give, so I guess it can apply to anyone) who may come across this, my advice would be to read some books, actual books and tons of em. I bought 6 books today, ok 2 of em were for my kids lol, still, doesn't even have to be grow related (although that's a bonus) I would say talk to people too, but sometimes you can't always find people to talk to, that's what I love about this place. If you keep doing what you do, and wait long enough people will find you and you'll be able to gift them with years of your knowledge and experience, or vice versa. Eventually, the right people will show up in your life. Try to do things a different way every so often, switch it up, keep yourself on your toes. Keep a detailed log, all you need is a pen and a notebook. Things that catch your eye, that you think might not really matter at that moment, write that shit down!!!!! I look back at all the times I didn't write something down cause I thought it was insignificant, but later on came to find out that "irrelevant observation" was basically the first ripple in the pond, dont forget to write down the good things you notice as well as the bad things. I say good and bad but there's really no difference, its all just what we see and how we interpret it alot of the time, but too many people focus on the problems and bad things that start happening and forget to see the rainbow after the storm. Every "problem" is really just a challenge in disguise, and when you can see it for what it really is, you come to find that life's greatest opportunities are really enormous challenges which, once overcome, can become the source of tremendous growth and strength. Bruce Lee is one of my favorites, and I find myself quoting him alot cause alot of his words are so relevant and timeless, so Ill end this part with a quote from him.

Absorb what is useful, reject what is not, add what is uniquely your own.

As for the juicing, I'm so glad I'm not alone. I know there's people like you and me that use the leaves, but how many people out there throw away big, juicy fan leaves, or just toss out males. Whenever I pull males that don't meet my criteria (which at times can be many, I pop alot of reg seeds), I throw em in the juicer with some fruits and veggies. Gotta stay healthy, that's number 1 priority. Can't lose sight of that, my kids and wife really inspire and motivate me everyday to be the best me I can be. Give thanks every morning I wake up and am blessed with another day in the flesh.

Here's a list of some of the healthy supplements I take on a semi regular basis

MCT oil
Spirulina
Cod liver oil
Bone broth
Moringa
Chia seeds
Vitamin B complex
Turmeric
Astragalus
Green tea
Sardines/Herring
Matcha/Green tea
Local Honey
Hemp hearts/Hemp seed oil
Probiotics
A bunch more, too many to list, this is just what I could think of

Yeah I know some of these are foods, but to me, food is medicine!! Momma always said you are what you eat! Lol

As for the roots, the MOST underlooked part of any grow (like the pun? Haha), they are delicious roasted and brewed, although it can be quite a bit of work, like harvesting any roots, you gotta get down and dirty digging em up and cleaning em off, a brush is a great tool for this, you know how the roots get. Taste is unique and can vary a bit depending on the strain, has a nice earthy, nutty taste. Don't know if it's all from the roasting or maybe some kinda terps in the roots. I love eating the seeds too, they're my favourite!! I don't know if its just me, but when I open a small mason jar full of seeds it smells so good, some smell lemony, others a bit fruity. Am I trippin?

I almost don't even want to talk about contaminants, cause it kills me just thinking about how much cannabis I've consumed over my life that I didn't even know what the hell was in it. It's brutal! But I will say this. One time smoked some shit that tasted like Mr. Noodles! In the bag, in a joint, even the smoke after being exhaled left a shitty mr noodles smell in the air! It was gross. On the bright side, now I now EXACTLY what's in my medicine. Im not saying I never smoke anybody else's stuff. In fact, I love smoking buds other people I know and trust have grown, variety is the finest spice of life. I think what I love even more though, is when I'm blessed enough to have people try my stuff and tell me its the best shyt they've ever had in their life. I hope I never lose the feeling I get when I hear those words. I've GIVEN away pounds and pounds worth over the years, tons of seeds/clones, made capsules for sick family and friends. It's what makes everything worth it for me, the feeling of helping people brings me the greatest joy out of anything I do.

I'm gonna end this now, this reply really wiped me out lol, woulda sent one yesterday but been completely overloaded past 2 days, barely had time for anything. I could've made this alot shorter, but just maybe, somebody somewhere needed this.

Been meaning to say this since the beginning too but kept forgetting, your LED is SAVAGE!!! Hope you kill it with your grow man!!!
