How to Top Plants?

you can try it by just tying a top branch downward - as soon as it is bent, hormones change in the stem making the side branches reach up for sun as cola tops.. i did it myself last year and it was pretty amazing, however my strain (black label master kush) was a terrible smoke...

be prepared for a much wider plant - it will stretch sideways a lot..

hey brett - it is tough to know if a female has been pollinated until harvest - the result is that you will have seeds - without pollen you get no seeds at all and it is a much better smoke - if you want to harvest seeds for later then you want a male plant nearby to pollinate.. got it?

i came to this thread because i learned this year that there is a better method than topping - if you simply tie the main cola down sideways it will produce new cola tops - you can even do this multiple multiple times where if you top then you actually lose a cola.. i have seen this method in action and it is beautiful - wide, low plants with numerous tops..!
how very dare you lol, IMO topping is better then the tie method and if you dont agree your wrong lmao

So, if she doesn't get pollenated you will have a sinsemilla crop! and if she does get pollenated you will have a crop with good bud but it will have seeds in it? which is most wanted or potent bud the sinsemillia bud or the pollenated plant? and is there a prefference? also they only way to keep it from getting pollenated is to keep it indoors, correct? and if you keep her outdoors the chances of her getting pollenated are pretty good correct? hey man Thanks for the tip and also you said tie the main cola down to what the side of the bucket with what, don't you take a chance of snapping the plant off at the base? the plant right now is about a 1/4 of an inch thick at the bottom and probably to short (about 8 inches) to tie it down wouldn't you have to wait untill the plant was much taller before you tie it down? My friend did that when he grew a huge plant that was probably 6 or 7 feet tall and just huge wide and tall and it was planted right into the ground, and was later stolen but that was 20 years ago. it may have been even taller than that it was huge and had one main stock and then a bunch of long and tall colas. so if you could let me know how you would do that and i will look into it. but also let me know about all of my 1st questions. thanks alot man that was really cool of you to answer, take it easy and happy growing. i hate smoking seeds - the overall smokability is decreased - the seed casings don't taste good either and the plant does not put as much THC into the buds - so seedless is preferred by most buyers - indoor you have almost no chance of pollination - outdoor you risk that someone else has a male within a mile or two..

as for bending - you just pull gently - pull sideways until the side branches will point upward and those branches will take off.. the process can start when they are small - you get a very low plants, but super wide!

i have heard that plants can come back into veg cycle if you get their light going right away - keep them all in proper veg light - if the SLH is that stunted or early then you are not risking a lot.. sometimes outdoor plants will show pre-budding when there is too much spring cloudiness, but then when the sun comes out they do revert to veg growth..

yes.. also very stunted.. i'm not sure what i would do - definitely don't sacrifice the well being of your healthy plants for it's sake..

just thought i'd add - i have been using the bending method and i have multiple tops just like topping, only you don't lose the middle cola.. i will never top a plant now..

i have found this year that without bending my plants don't produce as much. i get almost double the product on the trained plants. you won't get as giant of colas, but you will get more of them. i have seen plants with dozens of tops instead of one and i firmly believe it is good. more stems are made, yes, but they each produce a top and more leafs make more energy for growth.

people have been topping for a long time and it does not just make more stems - i suggest that bending is the same deal only you don't lose the central cola.
