I saw something on mythbusters once where they used a fine wire mesh cage to block out any wireless frequencies for a cell phone. not sure if it would work or not but you could make a frame to place over your balasts and wrap it in wire mesh. I used to manage wireless networks and the reason you are losing the connection is because the ballast is creating to much noise for your computer to communicate with the wireless router. I'm sure you are already aware of this but I just wanted to make sure. The only way to prevent this from happening is by placing the ballasts in a shielded area which prevents the excess noise from interrupting your connection. The only material I know for sure works is lead because we used to lose the connection in the x-ray areas.
