how to stake a big lady?

Heading into week 6 with some heavy ladies damn near 6' with 14" colas... Problem is they want to fall over. I've always grew short squat and never had to worry about staking. Obviously something needs done.
Question is how deep can I drive the stakes and where do I drive them? Im thinking I don't want to place them next to the stem because of the root ball or will that be ok?
Or should I drive them more towardd the outside of the bucket? Im thinking of only driving them maybe 2" deep. My only fear is damaging the roots... Any help would be greatly appreciated..

It will feel and sound horiffic but you just ram a stake in there. put it where ever you need and go all the way to the bottom. be sure to over compensate with the angle that you are pulling towards i.e. if the limbs are leaning right, angle stake to the left to give the stake more leverage. again it will feel scary but they will be fine. try to use one satke for multiple limbs.

Ouch, just the thought of it sounds horrific...lol... Thanks for the reply.... Im either going to stake them or use shoelaces and tie the tops to the wall.. I guess this is a pretty good predicament to be in compared to other problems...lol..

i know the pain you are worrying about, ive had the same experience, but i agree with gotigers...drop the stake at an angle to your plant (you will most likely just slide between the roots if your soil is loose/airy) pushing the stalk in the direction you want. For the first few days you will want to over compensate for the lean, by pushing the plant towards the other side, then re-prop the stake to make it stand up. Its a bit of stress but only takes a coupla days to get it standing up straight.

Keeping the lights as close as possible as well as having a thick pot will encourage shorter, fatter grows with thick stems of course.

Thanks man, Yeah these 2 ladies of whom Im talking about are sativa dominant phenos. The other 2 are the same strain and are foot or more shorter carrying the indica pheno... a 600 watt hps is only 7 inches from the tops... The tops just seem to heavy...

if youre ladies are in a relatively closed off area, you can use strings to prop it up. Screw eye-hooks into the sides of the grow box...then tie string from the eye hook to the stem, holding it up, i would suggest 1 on each side of the plant (at least 2 strings) and it should help hold it up too.

ahh good work..just be careful that the line is not really tight, it can cut into the soft tissue....like to see some pics at harvest of those colas..good luck...oh and in the future keep a lookout in dollar stores for 25 foot rolls of green garbage ties..really thin wire covered in a green paper for 2 $

Ahhh, I may run down their (dollar store) in a bit and check into that... I tied the fishing string loosely, I am a little leary about the fishing string... Ill be sure to post some pics soon.. It's a nirvana strain called chrystal, hence the reason for different phheno types... All and all Im really happy with them... 60/40 indica/sativa hybrid white widow x northern lights backcrossed with northern lights.... 2 of my fav strains, that's why this strain caught my eye... Thanks again...

Be careful with fishin line, ive had it cut into my main stalk before...i would suggest hemp rope if you can find it (ebay item) or else just some string or ribbon. You want something flexible that will move with the plant enough to give you time to adjust to any major change...plus its easier to tie off...lol

The green garbage ties corso is talking about works too for short ties. as it is really thin wire and thus is weak and flexible.
