How To Spot Mold Or Rot. (pics)

Seen people asking about mold and rot pics. So I came up with this. Pics below are from a type of stem rot I am dealing with. Not bud worms. I have notice the stem rot starts at the nodes. Bud worm rot can start from anyplace on the bud. Bud worm rot is more mushy with what looks like pepper shit. So if you are wondering if you have bud worm rot or just bud rot a good way to tell is by where it starts from. Below I talk about the little dead leafs sticking out of the buds. If you can find them the same day they droop dead you can save lots of bud. The key is to find it early before it can jump/spread to the next node. You can tell how new the mold is by what the dead leaf looks like. I go over this below as well.

This is how I fight mold. May be better ways but being an Oregon grower this is what I found works best. The torch has been my number one tool. Been using it for like 3 years now. I also torch the scissors blades after cutting out any mold. Fast and easy way to keep spores off them.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

You will see the little dead leaf sticking out of the bud. The leaf will droop down and turn brown and skinny. Follow the leaf stem down to the bud stem and you will see mold. How early you see the dead leaf is how bad the mold will be. Sometimes you will lose just one node section. Sometimes you lose the whole bud or section. Looks for these leafs for both worm mold or just bud rot. What I have noticed is if the dead leaf you spot is still green the mold patch is new. (like in first two pics below) But if the leaf you spot is grey or brown and curled bad. It's a few days old spot and may have spread. (like 3rd pic) As you can see the only way to spot the mold inside is from the one single leaf. For the bud is stil green on the outside at this time.

These pics show bud rot or some kind of stem mold that I am fighting now.

If a guy wanted to he could cutthis section out of the plant. Cut out any mold you can see. Then pen torch the area. I have saved huge top colas doing this. (last pics kind of shows end results of torching) Again you got to get it early before the stem rots all the way. If you cut your mold out of a cola IMO you better torch it.

These are the buds that you see cut up in the two pics above. This is when they were on the plant. Shows how good it can hide inside the bud. Notice the brown? A huge factor is how soon you find this and how fast you can cut it out. Pics were at night so not the best. Again the only way to see or spot it is with that single dead leaf.

The torch stops mold in it tracks. Just like this!!!!! Works wonders on stem mold or gray mold. Consider is gone when you torch it. It works that good.

I can say that dealing with stem rot is better than dealing with bud worms. I say this for if you catch the rot fast it is easy to cut out for it on the node sections. Bud worms just rot right in the middle of the buds.

If you want more info on pen torching do a search of this site for "Stoping Mold with Pen Torch" I have a thread floating in search world. May be on other sites so add 5150 in the search box.

My garden

Great post! This is sort of embarassing, but I have never dealt with mold or PM, indoors or outdoor. Crazier yet is I really take no precautions other than keeping humidity, temps, and the overall environment in check. That's not what has saved me though, it's simply been dumb luck and I believe that. It's like the grower that accepts clones from other sources yet has never dealt with mites. It's just a matter of time. Well this week has been my time! I spotted the smallest little spot of PM last night on one of my OG's. I'm pretty thurough when I look over my plants and I am am fairly certain I would catch a curling leaf like that, but when you have a large garden you begin to loose it after inspecting so many plants, as you obviously know! So I am headed back this morning with h202 and a jug of skim milk, not planning on using them combined just not sure which route I am going to go. I want to puke thinking I have to spray anything this deep into flowering! Wait I just puked! So any advice for me? Should I spot spray or douche the entire plant? I'm talking about a spot the size of a penicls eraser on a fan leaf no where near a bud. But again this was last night and I'm headed back that way within the hour. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Say 5150 what is your elevation? I have moved several times and have found that higher elevations are better for Sativas. 75% plus sativa gives me fits when dealing with elevations under 1000 feet. Unfort. I had to destroy my whole crop.
