Interested in making super potent butter and coconut oil

wondering how much of what percent cannabis these mediums can take before becoming saturated

Youll never be able to fully saturate it if using it to extract..
You have to slowly add a concentrate to the heated coconut oil, no way around it
Decarbing herb is terrible too

so if I understand ; your saying we should make some wax and add it instead of boiling trim in butter - which is totally doable we're about to order a vac purge anyway but I'm curious why

And I was kind of guessing butter and oil might not have a saturation point and your reply seems to confirm that - so our idea was to have a small stick of butter that we would HAVE to cut down before use , so I guess what I'm asking is would the extreme here just be a chunk of wax ? So " cutting it down" and "making butter" are really two concentration levels same process

The butter water trim crock pot method appeals to us for a couple of reasons , no butane cost and you can use slightly less potent trim and get a good product

Well decarbing plant material your never exactly sure if youve gone too far or too little. You can watch extracted hash oil and be sure. Adding a good bit of water will help to keep your butter from being too terribly green, but your still getting more undesirable compounds than you would with an extracted hash. When using the boiling water butter mix to extract the high heat degrades active compounds giving the typical sedative effect from common edibles, also as thc dissolves into the solution the rates at which its doing so slows down. Getting it fully saturated is difficult in this manner and still preserving terps and cannabinoids. Besides not knowing exactly how much is in your butter. Coconut oils saturation point will be about 20mg/ml. But adding measured hash oil can really help dosing.
Its best to slowly add hash oil to heated butter. Of course coconut oil is the best medium

define "undesireable" is it reguard to taste or effect
edit: sorry reread your post, thats interesting i'm ok with the typical sedative effect and have begun to expect it, but i would love to try for an alternative!

also I'm not running a dispensary or anything so I don't care too much the concentration in the butter, as long as most of the actives arent left behind

also to be clear when I said boiling water I meant just warm crock pot water, we turn it down if it does start to boil

Well both. Anything not thc or other cannabinoids is taking up space that could have been thc etc, and can impart a planty bitter taste to edibles. Making it obvious they are a bit special.
Im not saying you cant do it that way, but its not the absolute best. Its still relatively effective. But if your looking for the most potent and most like the herb it came from in regards to effect you really should dissolve decarbed hash in melted coconut oil.

As to the actual extraction, as long as the water/oil is warm enough to melt trichome heads, not much will be left behind realistically. The fats arent exactly an aggresive solvent but 30 minutes should suffice
You may not need to know exactly the mg in your oil, but knowing if you should add more plant or possibly hae too much eases the mind

Thanks @qwizoking for laying this out. I've been using dry ice sift in my coconut oil, putting both in a frying pan on low on the stove. Its worked great, very stony but non-ganj tasting but also lacking in terpenes or good flavor.

You say the best bet is to dissolve decarbed hash in melted coconut oil. What's your recommendation for decarbing hash? Think my fry pan's temperature is too uncontrolled?
And mine's not actually pressed into hash its just loose trichs. Thank you.

Ive always decarbed my concentrates as is over a double boil. You could add a small amount of coconut oil if your hash isnt full melt. It doesnt really matter too much. Basically the cooh carboxyl group leaves as co2 and h2o bubbles. The double boil keeps it a steady temp. You can watch these bubbles slow, like popcorn lol. Thats when you know its done. Now of course a natural decarb over time at room temp is best but not practical for most people. The boiling point of water is pretty good for quickly breaking the bond.
You will likely loose much of the fruity esters and aldehydes with a boiling point 150-170 or so but many of the terpenes have a similar bp or higher than thc, pinene for example as i was discussing earlier in another thread
