Hello everyone. Ok I am about to start a grow in coco coir. So I need alittle help. I broke down a brick of coco with phd water with alittle cal-mag in it. So my question is since I broke the brick down a couple of weeks ago. I have stored in a plastic bin with a lid on it. I was wanting to know should I do anything to the coco now since its been sitting around for a couple of weeks?

You put wet coco in a sealed bin weeks ago ? If its still wet you might want to think about throwing it out cause its likely full of mold and other nasties. When you prepare the coco from the brick leave the lid OFF the bin and make sure it can dry back out.

Does it stink? Coco itself is very inert--I stored a bag under a dripping pipe for a year (by mistake), no problem. The CalMag has a little nitrogen. Have you rinsed the coco at all? If not, I'd do that next to get rid of salt. If you have an EC/ppm meter, a slurry test is a good idea before using the coco.

Yes I rinsed the coco. Then rinsed 1 more time with pH water and a little calmag

It was all dry before I put the lid on the plastic tub.

I've got a brick of coco for emergency use but I buy bags of Canna. An 18 gallon tote holds a 50L bag and I cover it, no problems except condensation.

It sounds like you're ready to go.

Even if it was wet, trichoderma isnt an issue. Its actually added to alot of soils. But yeah storing wet wouldve been bad practice maybe due to other molds..but ive stored wet coir before and all that was there was trich. But im not condoning this. Just statements.

Yes some types of mold and spores are fine... That's not a reason to think your only going to have the few beneficial or inert types, and sure as heck dont know whats in the others growers air and breeding. You have less than a 20% chance of getting a decent outcome in this situation. Simply dry it out and dont play a mold lottery
