how to ppm your nutes?

hi i have a question about how to set the ppm in my dwc. i have heard that if you want 1000ppm for your res, add nutes to the water and when the ppm reads 1000ppm, you're golden. i have also heard that if your water starts at 500ppm, and you want 1000ppm, you add 1000ppm of nutes, making it 1500ppm total... what is correct? my water starts at 580ppm outta the faucet, so if i want 1000ppm of nutes i am thinking i will add 1000 to the 580, making it 1580... ugh so confused!!!

580 out of the faucet? wow I though 330 was bad. use half strength man.
When someone is referring to 1000ppm and you start at 580 then you add 420 man.

some indicas can handle 2000 ppms..just gradually raise it PER WEEK..once u see any sign of over fert. back off the nutes and bring ur ppms down by 200 or so

ive got a local strain that can take over 2000ppms, I fucked up with the mix and hit the res with it minutes later it flooded the bucket just as I was puting
the pen in there to see the ppm level and I saw it bounce between 1900 and 2000! I was like shit! but the plants were like what bitch is that all you got lol

I dont think those are burnt tips at all. By week 5 of flower you stop using the "gro nutes " ( nitrogen) so the plant starts sucking up the stored nitrogen in the fan leaves. Thats one reason I dont trim any fan leaves unless they are dead. This comes in handy especially during flush.

true but u cant say AT ALL cuz you've never seen my plants..it could be both..i get my ppms pretty high in week 5 but i also cut N out completely in week 5

I would say 99% of the growers get those same burnt tips. I have yet to see a grow with out them in flower. The plants just eating the stored nitrogen in the leaves.

yea when they autumn off mine are just into week 5 though..i get the edges to slightly fold in and the tips stick upward like a sulpher def..its from my high ppms and maybe a lack of N but its not just from the lack of N

ok thanks all who responded so quickly! just so i understand correctly, when fox farm says 1280ppm, they mean 1280ppm total, not add 1280ppm of nutes to the tap water. i want to only add 700ppm of nutes to my 580ppm tap water?

o yea and just to let u know, u should SPECIFY what type of PPM meter u are using because some meters read different from others.

True.
Different manufactures use different equations when getting PPM from EC. So also make sure when you are referring to fox farm information you are using the same scale as them,
and really water outta the faucet at 500 ppms, ffs is it green?

I would consider using RO or Distilled water. Reads in at 0 ppms.

yea my tap is about 500..not green just full of calcium and magnesium and other shit to..i use half tap/half distilled every time i water and it works pretty good

isn't ro water like $3 a gallon? i have 6 5gal buckets, that would be more than $30 for water alone each time i switch out my water. is it possible i'm not testing it right? i calibrated the tds meter already...

Where do you buy R/O water??? Dude go to a water and ice store in your town ( if they have them ) I get my R/O water filled up in 5 gallon jugs for .30 cents a gallon. I finally just bought a R/O system from Lowe's waiting for my plumber buddy to install it. I think 550 tap water is too high of a PPM. 250 PPM in tap is cool to use but 550 seems kinds of high.
