how to lower ph?

hey, what can i use to lower the ph? i got this soil that was the best i could find for drainage and was most lease dense cause i know they dont like to be saturated and i know they love their space, so i got this soil with these pictures of cacti and the like on it so after i bought the shit iwas afraid that this might be a sign of hich acidity, i still need some of that litmus paper to find out but would any one know...

if the plant is very young a rapid change in ph could kill it. i was using some fertilizer and accidently put too much in one of my younger plants and within two minutes it was over on its side begging to die.

you could use a weak acid. i don't know for certain, but carbonated water is essentially carbonic acid, which is a weak acid to begin with. if you are lowering ph using acids, definitely weak acids, first off, or use a substance with conjugate acid ions. nitrates are good for this. but you gotta be careful.
 
litmus paper? so i use acid to lower the acid level, i dont know ,im no chemist but really, how does that work?? or do u mean once i used the ph lowerer so that it will have some acid and wont be going through a huge change and gradually taking that acid source out?
 
Just an additional question....Can PH meters be put into soil for a reading or are the made specifically for liquid testing?

And one more....If you already have plants going and check your soil PH later on and find it to be like 5.3 or so....Thats pretty acidic....what can you do to raise the ph...after the plant has been planted in its final pot? I heard about lime/? to raise/lower ph. Wondering if anything can be done once the plant is in its final pot?
 
i use the meter in soil and my water..it gives me bad readings compared to the strips, limestone ive heard lowers ph and powderd sulfer raises
 
ive used limejuice to lower the acidity and also vinegar, but got tired of using them and went to walmart and bought mw some ph down in the pool section works great....
 
I have ph down/up that I bought for water. Im talking about soil though. Can ph up/down be used to adjust soil ph?
