How to get air but not light in through a window ?

Wut up growers? bongsmilie



I have a nice big 4 foot by 3 foot window in my growroom that the faces the

street and lots of eyes and traffic.



The window slides side to side and has a screen on the outside and standard

cheap white blinds on the inside. They're fit fit to sit outside of the window frame. I

nailed a dark sheet around everything to keep the lights from being seen.



The window looks good at night from the outside but the room is consistently too

hot.


The room is vented without the window - but the sheet is stopping any cool air from

coming in through it. I have to nail it tight to keep the light in and it tries to billow in

like a parachute from the neg pressure in the room. Sucks cause I thought that

window was gonna be awesome for keeping temps down... I need it.



Anybody have a clever idea how to draw that chilly outside air in without any light

being seen at night?






I tried a window air conditioner thinking I could use the fan only, but what I found is that it pulls it's intake from the INSIDE also. No outside air is coming in.
I guess they stick the ass end out just to keep the heat from the moving parts out.???

why not build a box around the window and put it over the window??? hmmm hard to explain....put a hole up high on window side and hole low on room side so air can come in but light gots to bend corners....make sence???

yeah man that's close.. I'm hoping not to have to build a big ass box around this window and then anchor it to drywall. But with some ducting painted black on the inside and bent away from the light I could probably make it work.... have some carbon prefilter too that I could cut to fit inside the ducts..


been thinking of running ducting right through the sheet..

i use active air fans the dont let much light threw than i use insulated ducking form homedepot its black on the inside i make 90 up from my window to the fan and the a 90 down it works blocks the light but cuts down on air bit maybe that well help you you man

I made a box that actually SLIDES into the inside of my window seal.....Im in an aprtment so i cant cutholes or anchor anything so i just made a 3inch DEEP square box that was slightly smaller then the window then i took the blind off the inside of the window and mounted them on the INSIDE of the box so from the outside it just looks like the blinds are down and the light is off...... very simple and no cutting or drilling holes in anything......then i cut a 6inch hole on the back side and mount a flange and connect my exhaust to that hole and leave window open 6inchs

I cover mine with a sheet of plywood (you could cut yours down to fit your window), cut 6" or "8 holes and they sell sheet metal intakes that you can attach to plywood then put ducting on to direct air flow. You have to have blinds that fit on the inside of your window for this to work. Just cover the whole thing and leave windows open with blinds open a tiny bit to let air flow. I have built boxes around my windows and this way is MUCH easier!

easy do whay i did.

picture 1 the window box is on the left wire leading to small 20 watt night light between window and box, my built room is on right.

picture 2 the window box is on the right, you can see the light cable hanging at the left, on the window box you can see where i removed the duct from the window duct flange to let you see the outside daylight shine in, my room is on the left.

between the window and the box there is flyscreens to keep insects out.

when the duct is on the window flange the space you can see just now is then totally pitch black.

Aw man good replies. Building a box to fit inside rather than outside sounds really good - maybe better than just covering with a sheet of plywood because it'll let me get to the window a little easier when I need to open or close it. Either way I know I need new blinds to fit inside the window frame. Then the rest is pretty simple - flanges and ducting.
