How To Germanate?!

Ok people one thing that i know how to do, its germanate and it is very, very easy. Most people have there own way of germanating, but about 90% of the growers use the pappertowel method. This can be completed in 4 easy steps.

1) Take a pappertowel or napkin (dont use toilet papper or cleanex i herd stories) and get it completly wet then let the watter drain out of the cloth for a little bit, making it damp, and well moist.

2) Place your seeds in the middel of the towel (5-8 seeds per towel) and fold the towel over the seeds making a beener sandwitch.

3) Place the damp papper towel in a ziplock bag and store in a worm light-tight area. (dont put a light on them, its worthless because the seeds are getting all the nutrens and shit that they need from inside the seed.)

4) Ok, there are 2 ways to check when you need to put them in dirt.

a) When the little root pokes out of the shell about a centimeter you can put it in your grow medium about a half inch in to the dirt, worm betting, ect. (making shure that the root is pointing down) As soon as u see those little sunleafs come out of the dirt or whatever then you can turen on your light and set your timer.(if you have one)
or
b) You can wate for the plant to completly grow out of its shell then put it in your medium. (make shure your plant is completly out of its shell, by then your sunleafs should be formed and have a nice white rood at the bottem. Never take the shell off the plant because it can still be getting its nutrents out of the shell that it need to survive at this state. Unless if when you pick up the plant, and the shell falls off, that means it grew out of its shell and ready to grow.)

******Your lighting should be at 18/6 starting out.******* bongsmilie

You ever wonder why those seeds don’t germinate? Here are some things that might stop your seeds from germinating in soil!

Too Wet
Seeds need to be damp, not wet for germination. Excess water prevents oxygen getting to the seed. Poorly drained soils may also cause soil fungus diseases. The condition of wet soils may be improved by adding perlite. which will aerate your soil.

Too Dry
A certain amount of water is essential for germination, so maintaining a constant soil moisture during the germination period is vital, cover containers with glass or glad wrap to prevent you soil drying out.

Too Hot
High temperatures result in excessive soil desiccation and injury to seeds and seedlings.

Too Cold
Cold temperatures can kill seedlings and prevent germination. Cool temperatures can result in slow, un-even germination, and attack by soil diseases. You may want to start your seeds indoors, before outplanting. Make sure planting dose not done too early, when it is stll cold and there is a frost hazard.

Planting Too Deep
This will result in delayed emergence. seeds may not be able to grow enough to reach the surface on the limited food storage within the seed. Soil temperature is also lower with depth. Plant your seed 1/2 and inch to an inch down for best results.

Planting Seeds Too Shallow
If you plant your seeds to shallow the seeds can dry out.

Soil Too Firm
Making your soil mix to firm can prevent oxygen getting to your seeds also drainage is also affected.

Soil Too Loose
Soil which is too loose results in too much air surrounding the seed, and they will not absorb moisture and will most likely dry out.

Soil fungus
Seeds may root or seedlings fall over. Overwatering, poor drainage and lack of aeration will increase the likelihood of this occurring. Plant seeds in sterilized potting mix, and make sure you containers are clean.

Non Viable seeds
If your seeds have not been stored correctly they can deteriorate. Look for dark brown seeds. Avoid and light colored or whitish seeds as they are not mature.

My favorite method to stores seeds is to place your seeds in a film canister, then fill it up to the top with rice, this will absorb any moisture, and either freeze them for long term storage or place in a dry, dark cool place for a shorter time period.

This is ture, when using the papper towel method this allows you to look after your seeds every day and check there progress, and not wate for something that could be a waste of time using soil to germanate.

When I push germinated seeds into soil, it is well soaked and drained, But I don't make a hole... I just push the seed in till a tiny bit of the head is showing. I then cover with a thin layer of soil. It's never failed.

well, i would make a hole so u dont hurt the root pushing it down, and when the seed does grow ther isnt going to be any soil there to support it.

I guess you would hurt the root if you crammed the seed into soil. But I think that a little common sense is all that is needed here.

What temp. does the papertowel need to be and do you have any suggestions for keeping it up? When i start out its quite warm but later when checking on it it is cold but still wet/damp. Does this matter?

I'd worry about temp just to avoid molding, fungus..etc.
so I put a heating pad under my seeds because i heard certain strains need heat to "hatch" bcuz they usually get warmth in nature..but i dunno what strains i have bcuz mine were just bag seeds :-/

hi
i have read on here, when you are germinating if the seed floats its worthless is this right or shit ???
if it is, is there any way off stopping it
i:e doing somthing wrong ?:blsmoke: :joint:

i thought if they floated you just tap on it and it should eventually drop...if not then that means its not ready...if it never drops then ya they're garbage

I never herd of that, and when you germanate in a tissu or a pice of toilet papper, the root will have a "mold" on it, so only use papper towel, cuz you have all of those loose particels all over the toilet papper/tssue that the root is trying to absorb. so use PAPPER TOWEL.

Fresh seeds will always float. They float, you DON'T tap them... you wait for them to sink on their own... this usually takes 24-48 hours. Once they sink to the bottom the seeds are ready for you to GENTLY crack them... whereby you get them the right way round and you transplant into your medium.
