dosnt have to be a 1k watter dude! You can add supplimental lighting in there, your cfl idea isnt bad provided your using the right spectrum. T-5 6k blue will help also, shit even a small mh in there would help. Chuck said more watts not what kind my friend lol!

atami makes bloombastic. i think 1000w on 2 plants is an overkill. 400w is way more than enough. plus 1000w will fuck up your temperatures. if your adding molasses into your soil, why dont you add some beneficial microbes too..

Personally i use Vipar A100 with amazing results for 100w, you should check this as an option for supplemental lighting.

Get a 600 watt HPS, use your 400 to veg your plants longer, use 7-10 gallon pots, grab some TGA genetics (that part is just a preference), and use good soil. If you want truly big nuggets, like 2 ounce buds, you'll need 1000 or 2000 watts of HPS lighting.

More light sounds like a good idea. You might want to consider LED side lighting to go with your HPS. It doesn't put out a lot of heat (if you are having any heat issues), it doesn't pump up your electric bill very much and you don't have to replace bulbs...not to mention you could be adding in spectrum that you don't have now. Just for general comparisons and to give you some idea of how much wattage you might want - I'd put a 400 watt HPS as about equivalent to 200 - 250 watts of good LED.
There are many different brands out there - the only thing that I would definitely not do is purchase one off e-bay for as little money as possible. Unfortunately, there's lots of junk out there and one of the reasons folks talk bad about LED sometimes. I use Kessil and think that could work well but there are many others from California Lightworks to Apache Tech to Area51 that seem to be worth their money. I wonder how a Kessil H350 magenta on one of their flexible mounting arms so you could move the light easily onto different parts of the plant would do? If interested, look at growershouse.com.

I'm growing with LED and fluorescent light right now and am within two weeks of harvest and the buds are rock hard and covered in trichs - one of the main colas even has a little hash tip. I haven't had anything quite like this before. I'm planning to go LED only this coming year.

Getting better genetics is always worthwhile. You can only ever help the plant reach its potential.

800 watts is more than ample for only 2 plants. Also, I found out once the hard way that too much molasses causes N lockout...so now I use every other watering.

Good luck!

personally i think 400w HID is plenty for 2 plants, like someone said above you can only help the plants reach thier max potential meaning there is no real way to "fatten" up the buds, genetically they will only grow to a certain size.
