Ok, I have researched everything there is to know about drying and curing. There are so many guides on how to dry and cure. How bout a guide on how to dry without curing. I am planning on curing my bud, but I wanna get like a half ounce ready without curing. Now I just cut down my first lady, and this is what I have done. I have hung dry for 3 days, now at this point the outside is super crispy, then I put into a jar for a day, and then when I open next day it is all moist again, so I take it out lay it on cardboard and put oscialting fan on it from a descent distance so its not blowing directly on the bud. Now what I have dryed so far has come otu a little crispy on the outside and moist in the middle still. Any ideas on how to dry some bud without curing please let me know!!!
Don't blow a fan directly on drying bud. Also I would not use cardboard. Looks like you trim before drying, I too love how much better trim you get and how much easier it can be but you really want to slow the initial dry as much as possible so I now leave most leaves on while drying.
As said, paper bags work good if you jarred the buds too early. I fill them 1/4-1/2 way full and fold the top over.
I HIGHLY suggest calibrated hydrometers for you jars(see the sticky guide), especially for novices, it removes a lot of the guess work and you don't have to open jars when it's not needed.
If you want to dry a half-o to smoke able just let it sit out on a screen and rotate it. I would not use any thing like fans or cardboard to wick it. It'll take a day or two longer but better than waiting 2 months for cured stuff if you are in a hurry.
PS> I usually have a few grams of sift after a harvest. Just from loose trimming and placing branches in the trimbins. If you are trimming fresh, just let it the sift dry for a few days before collecting it(it will dry out faster if you just leave it spread out on your collection surface)
Why?
I will be harsh as hell without curing.
I disagree. I just dried a plant at ~45f in very dry air for 2 weeks. Not harsh at all. It does taste a little "fresh" but it's not harsh. 100% organic, and no "flush".
BTW, I'm not arguing about curing, I'm just saying, I think the grow process has a lot more to do with it being harsh or not. But If you aren't extracting the bud curing is a must.
ALSO: People are having wonderful results just drying for a month a lower temp with controlled humidity. Much more terp preservation, that's what I was messing with with the plant I mentioned and it worked good, terps in tact, but it was way too dry and dried out too much too fast. It's like 10% RH here most of the time.
