How to decide which strain to grow?

Hey all,

how are you guys and ladies deciding which strains you are going to grow? If I had to bet I would say there are two kind of grower, those that stick with what they like and others that try new stuff every grow. Hm maybe three types, I bet there are also the ones that just go for yield.

When I first started growing I had no idea what I would like and what not. So I just took a topic/ theme (I guess) and went with it.
I'm growing everything that has some kind of nobility in the name "Queen" "king" "highness" "emperor" or whatnot. I know its stupid, but its like collecting coins now lol.

Atm I have:

Royal Highness
Special Queen
Purple Queen
Sherbet Queen
Shogun

on my shelf.
Always looking for new suggestions!

Best Regards,
Sebbo

My long term dream is to have a few mothers on deck that I love, but I don't have the space for that currently. At the present, I tend to look for stable cultivars that will grow as expected and can meet my needs. I have limited space, so I want uniformity in my grows. I'm also a sucker for a good name. I tend to go for cultivars that sound "nice". I have no desire to try some of these disgusting sounding cultivars like Cat Piss or Grandpa's Breath....

I breed and pheno hunt for pain relief strains. Today the way I often select is via dabs of the concentrate I try from my local dispensary. I then hunt down those specific genetics and give it a grow. I also go off genetic history of what will fit in my breeding program/hunt using the internet, mostly focusing on what other RIU members have grown.

Welcome to RIU and allow me to suggest Space Queen from Bros. Grimm.

LMAO at this point, I feel like the strains do the deciding for me  every time I make a plan, it gets thrown out the window & I plant something totally different.

I buy seeds of strains and grow them based on reviews/friend recommendations/stuff I’ve tried and liked/something I read and tickles my fancy. I usually try something new each grow with 1-3 maybe repeats of strains I really like. I have 11 strains/12plants growing right now inside and out. Although with my tent grow, it’s more of a redemption grow but trying one new strain in there with Golden Tiger x Panama. Growing Cinderella 99 from Canuk Seeds again outside because she’s my goto afternoon strain. Plus mostly Indica outside because of growing conditions in Canada. So length of flowering determines whether it’s a tent grow or an outside attempt. Already thinking out my grow for next year but wanna see if anything I’m growing now, is something I want again for next year
