how to clone?

i had a branch break by accident off one of my ladies. i stuck it into some soil and added bunch of nuted water. it seems to be doin alright? will this work, or do i have to have the cloning solution?

by the way the plant is only 40 days into flowering and its maturing very slowly.

In general you shouldn't use any nutes other than cloning solution/gel/powder, and you shouldn't add a bunch of water either. The goal is stimulate roots to search for water so you want it to be borderline moist but not wet. If you can put it under a tupperware or something to keep the humidity up.

Also it's a bit too late to do now but you should always cut the stalk off at a 45 so there is a bit of exposed innards to spawn roots.
