How much weight before an automtic trimmer becomes worth it?

Im a metal fabricator, and I could build a nice one out of shit i have laying around, without spending a single dollar. Ive watched the videos on youtube, and trimming by hand clearly does a better job. I have to trim a few plants tomorrow, about a half pound worth once its dry. I cant decide if I want to build a trimmer or not.
Let me hear some opinions.

I am also a fabricator by trade. Build custom chassies, off road suspension, etc..

Would love to make my own instead of payin my buddys.

I would love to know the same thing.

this sounds like a project in the making...maybe one of you two fabricators should get your fabrication on and take some pics! :D

as a hobby and part of your trade you could build an automatic trimmer when ever you feel bored, it could prove helpful in the future, but for a half pound i dont think it would be necessary. 2-3hrs and you should be able to trim that properly. Would make a cool DIY thread if you got some nice pics thru the process-unless its just going to be one of those boxfans modded

Thats exactly what it would be. nothing special.
1. Cut blades off
2. Make new, flat edged blades, angled in the opposite direction, weld them on.
3. Replace the grate with slotted sheetmetal

its that simple

One friend and I banged out my whole harvest today in a few hours with pointy shears. I dont think im gonna build a trimmer anyway, I cant see it doing a good enough job. Maybe if I grew shitty weed id do it, but all those pistils would get chopped off and theyre covered in trics.

Im not a fabricator or nothing, just handy and I too was thinking on sheet metal and tack welding new blades instead of rewiring a motor on a fan but I could not get past the idea of my new invention rusting up after a few uses. Unless you painted it but then the interior of the motor housing is not sealed. Just a thought
