How much water for a 3 gallon pot?

Hi guys,

I have plants in 3 gallon containers now

I water with 0.4 gallons per container, and i get loads of run off at the bottom? But the soilmix seems to absorb the water? does a lot of run off mean, the soil has absorbed as much water as it can and I should stop watering?

Should I maybe cut down to 0.2g (1 liter) ?

I am doing this every 3/4 days now, as they are budding and using loads of water now, I used to only do it once a week.

Am i giving the plants enough water ? why is there loads of run off? should i just use less water so the run off doesnt go all over the place?

Many thanks.

Grow Medium:
- 5% Premix
- 10% Worm Castings
- 20% Sphagnum Peat Moss
- 35% Peat

I never understood watering measured amounts, the plants need are changing everyday. If it is running off really quick it could just be your mix is compacted. You want to water your plants until all the soil is evenly saturated. You CANNOT over water your plants while watering, so make sure the soil is soaked and allowed to drain fully. Make sure you water slowly, give 1 plant a little water then the next plant then the next 1 then go back to the first and start over. If your soil is compacted let the pots sit in the runoff for about 10 min, it should absorb as much water as it wants, then drain. Hope this helps.

With that much peat, I would for sure want some Dolomite mixed in to stop future ph problems

I have 3 plants in 3 gallon pots and use 2 liters of water for each. I'm using FF ocean forest/light warrior mix and I usually water em with 1 liter then wait 15-20 minutes and pour the rest and don't get a lot of runoff
