i have a space thats 2 1/2' x 2' x 4 1/2' for my flowering it has a 80 cfm exhaust fan through the top and no stand alone intake yet, the intake vacumes from the veg. area which has 50 cfm intake on a timer but no exhaust yet. i want a 400 watt but i dont want to grind, yes grind, no bit but grind another port for a cool tube, it will make the box more suspect and its a messy job too. i was thinking a 250 watts for 8 clones starting @ 6"-8" sog style baby, i know i know, i want 400 but heat is the factor as of now.

with that being said lets get to the question @ hand, can i get away with a 250 watt hps and if not what can i do to get the ball rollin (i got the money so dont be foney, lol!).

Yeah you can. I run a 250 over all my freshly rooted clones. Right now 8 in 1/2 gal grow bags. Get em a close as i can and they do juuuuuuust fine.

Sorry to go against the grain Mate, but a cool tube is an awesome investment..

I built a small tent... 36"x20"x60" is small right?

and I got a 600 HPS in there... 10" away from my plants... and the temps have been around 75F...

Yes there is an added expense... and trouble with ducting... but a 600 10 inches away with ZERO issues.. that is worth a lot ... to me anyways...

Cheers...

I have to say, even though Im not growin now, I use to grow a lot back in the late 70.s. And though I dont grow cause I get it cheap , I still like keepin up to date on how people grow it now days. My freind whose name shall never be mentioned bought four of the 10 dollar walmart grow lights, which are 24" long, 7800k color spectrum and over 1100 lumens each, He also bought 2 of the same model with a normal 4200k bulb which are exatly the same model with a different bulb.. I believe it was model 7020 gl and 7020 for the normal light. So he duct taped them all together and now has 6 lights total . They use 17 watts each and put out 75 watts each of light. So equivelant to 450 watts and 6600 lumens. Makes your plants really bushy. Only 60 bucks plus tax for all the lights but 1 drawback is u have to plug each light in seperatly so a 6 pronged power cord also should be bought. Check out the profile pic of his plant at 2 weeks I put in my profile pic. Walmart rocks. heee

i did the same thing, bought 3 of those lights the 7800k

the plants grow pretty fast n bushy, my plan is to have 4 of those and stack 2 to each other and put them n the sides of the plant and then hang a main HPS light above and have cfl's all around to give extra light

so i dont get a palm tree from just HPS i can get some blues while it is in veg too
