Im going twice I think in a party cup now going to about a one gallon here in a cpl weeks and then prolly a five gallon bucket. I want fucking palm trees lol

I'll start off with party cups (in a PC grow case until they get as big as they will before CFL lighting starts to become inadequate (about 10-14 days)) then move them into HID tent in either .8 or 2 gallon air pots (.8 is great for SOG and 2 gallon is great for 2-3ft plants)

You should only need to transplant once unless you want to go seed to harvest without adding anything but water, then you will want to transplant 2 times (once from party cup/seedling stage into bigger veg pot then 1 more just before switching to flower)

You could skip the party cup stage and plant straight into big pots but I feel this isn't best because you never know if a seed will actually pop out of the ground until it does or if the seedling dies young for any reason

For me its party cup > 1gal > 2gal > 3gal > 5 gal

In my opinion, the more you build the rootball, the better.

If you got air pots you wouldn't need to do as many transplants as they air prune the ends of roots which causes many smaller roots to grow out of that one in all directions (instead of that root hitting a wall and spiraling without getting many new roots growing out of it). Also you could get some Mykos (mycorrhizae) to help make it so you need fewer transplants as well (they are little microorganisms that basically grow as roots that are added on to the roots of the plant)

I don't need to transplant that much, but because I do my rootmass it much more complex than that of one with less transplants, and I don't think my habits would change if I used aitpots anyways for the same reasons.

I know what mycorrhizae is, lol... but for sure, for anyone who doesn't know what they are... yet I don't know what you mean by they "grow as roots", I do know they help convert non-chelated fertilizers into available nutrition for the plant.

Also, if you use a bit of hygrozyme, or any kind of -zyme really, it helps break down dead roots and such, and cleans out your root system and in turn makes it extremely healthy.

Part of the point in air pots is you don't have to transplant to get an amazing rootmass, they will cut down on the work for you and grow better plants than normal pots.

I know what the point of airpots is man... What I do and what airpots do are two separete things. You could in fact use both together... either way, transplanting for me is really easy, and I never have any kind of shock, after about a day the plant is already growing rapidly, so I have no reason to change my system.

i start my seeds or cuttings in rapid rooters. as soon as they have a bunch of roots poking through they go into a 3 gallon pot until the end. i only deal with fem seeds. might do it differnt if i had to worry about growing males. i'm not saying this is the right or best way to do it but it works for me and you need to find what works for you.

Thank you to everyone who told me what you do and with details! also the to anyone who isn't trying to preach. There are many ways to grow dank

yes there is a right way and its my way :-), i transplant from half litre - 3 litre - 6 litre - 15 litre - 20 litre because it helps to create a tighter root zone, that makes nutrient uptake alot better, that make your plant better. STOP BEING LAZY AND START TRANSPLANTING LOL

Not a expert by a long shot, in fact im on my first grow but ive done tons of research and this question applies to my first big mistake and even greater fix....planted seedlings in 5 gallon bucket in good soil and a month later i have alot of very tiny healthy looking plants....i panick and analyze my sutuation...i decide to transplant one into a smaller container. While digging the roots out i realize how random and messy the roots were. Instead of forming a rootball the roots just wound itself all over here and there, so i transplant to a smaller pot, a week later shes tripled in size and surpassed the runts that i left in the buckets..not sayin the plant wouldnt have made it in the bucket, just sayin all the plants energy may have been deverting itself to root growth rather than up top causing slow or stunted growth, now i just have to worry about the stress turning my plants into ball packin fellas
