How many plants under COBS in a 4x8?

Just curious about how many plants under 900W consisting of 18 COBS would give me the most bang for my buck. Would you go sog in smaller pots I usually go with 2.5 gallon mop pails or would you plant fewer in larger pots. This will be a soil grow and I do have a five foot height limitation. Is there a rule of thumb about how long to veg or is it simply determined by how fast you want to turn a grow over or is there an optimum amount of time to veg? Is a plant per COB a reasonable target? Thanks and no worries.

You can veg however long you want. But consider your height restriction and... the better the root development the better the bud production. That is key.

How many plants you want to grow is all up to you. If you plan on growing sog style, I find that more smaller plants is more beneficial. More plants means I can get the same amount of bud, in less time because I don't have to veg very long. Just remember your plants are going to double in size when you flip to flower, so plan accordingly.

And as far as how many lights you want, go with lumens per square ft. I always use 2500 lumens per square foot in veg and 10000 lumens per square foot in flower. Use a lumens per square ft equation, which will be much better than a lumens per plants equation because everybody's plants are different sizes so that not an accurate gage of measurement.

If you wanna do smaller plants in a sog to save time, give me the dimensions of your grow space and I'll tell you a good number of plants

With your height restrictions I would do a sog grow... 18 plants one per cob... see how it goes..
I believe if you did 9 plants they would take longer with the same yields. You can only do so many calculations...
Then you have to grow and see!

Thank you father and you too Dan. So Dan does father ganja's calculations work out to 18 plants or something different. The saying " There is more than one way to skin a cat" has never been truer than when you apply it to growing weed.
The stretch concerns me a little but I always thought that it was a result of the plant reaching because of a lack of proper lighting. There's a reason why any kind of plants do what they do. Is the stretch then the result of the plants soul purpose of it trying to successfully reproduce. IE: Maybe taller gives it a better chance at catching the one grain of pollen it needs? Here a bit of nothing.. Impatiens Capensis commonly called "Jewel Weed" grow in patches of individual plants. If there is a lot of competition from other species all the Jewel Weed plants in a given area grow tall. So they are actually communicating with other members of the same species. Gimme a break. Work is done and the stone is on.
Ps.... Gots to have healthy roots to have healthy buds so what would be the optimum size pot. Yes I know. How long do I plan on vegging prior to the flip.

hmm 150cm grow limit.

Sea ofGgreen for sure. I would do 1 cob per plant, at least that is my own plan.

I'm currently building a 20 cob fixture and will run 1 cob per net-pot, so 20 cob's total in a SoG. Only difference between you and me will be that I'm running in hydro instead of soil.

The plants definitely stretch to present themselves for pollination.. a three week veg in your 2 1/2 gallon
pots will work for most strains.. I've done a sog with 1gal pots and 1 week veg.. too Damn many plants to care for..
I didn't do the calculations just figured a plant per cob would be a good place to start.. good luck!

I think a good metric for SOG would be to know final footprint for each plant with a particular veg time. I.E. if a veg time of zero is used the plant will take up X amount of space. I've never done SOG but have seen plant spacing as close as 8" which leads me to suspect an 8" square is the average footprint for a plant with no veg time.

In hydro I know a plant can reach as much as 32"x32" in a 4 week period. This indicates about a 3 week veg for 24"x24" plants in hydro, perhaps less if the footprint is reached after 12/12. Soil will be slightly different.

10K lumens per sq ft is super overkill. People are getting KILLER results from CXB3590's @ 1050 (37w) per sq ft and they're maybe throwing out 3-4000?
