How many lumens is enough?

What is the minimum amount of lumens it will take to grow a plant through its full life cycle? Summer is coming and I'm preparing for the heat!

Great, than means I can cut back to 15000 lumens. Going for 3 o's with two 125 watt cfl's. Is that do-able?

yea the 125 watt is plenty light to get 3 oz. its just gonna take a very very long time.. I run two 125w, one of each spectrum, and two 250w, all cfl's and they rock out in my tiny closet, i get 3-8 oz. every 10 weeks or so, i got new nutes now and hoping for some improved success

I have a 4x4 area. When you say very long time I assume that you are talking about veg time, and if so, how much faster will a 600hps give me the 3 o migos than two 125 cfl's?

i was thinking flowering time actually, theres a bunch of vids on utube of guys getting 1 gram per watt with flourecents, but it takes em bout 25 weeks, dunno bout the hps too much, i run 4 250 watt cfl's, cheap and very effective with less heat and less power

hey fuckstix, i gota 600hps cooltube hydro tent thats 4x4. i planted the seeds april 1st, and ive already got them flowering (day 5, 4 indicas, 7 sativas all bagseed) and the tallest (sativa) is lil over 16" n the shortest (indica, but bushy as HELL) is bout 13". its my first grow so i could be wrong, but id say by the time i chop em it will have taken bout 2 and a half months from seed, maybe a lil longer.

Good to hear that in 2.5 months or so I could have some greens. LightningMcgreen, what are the temps on the outside of your tent vs. those on the inside?

honestly its bout the same, i keep it in the basement and unless i keep the basement door open to the rest of the house it gets pretty damn warm n humid, mid to higher 80's. those lights put out a helluva lot more heat than i expected lol but it drops to bout mid to higher 70s at nite

Yeah. I have a 600 and the temps would be the same as yours and would have to run the a/c 24/7. i think I have to park the 600 til winter.

how much are u charged per kw/h? its at or around 9 cents here, and runnin ona 24/0 sched n kickin the house a/c on durin the day n off at nite our bill didnt raise really. still under 100 a month lol i could stand to run a couple 1000w'ers :hump: but where im at theres a whole lotta fuzz around, and i mean as neighbors, more than a few just a few houses away, so i cant really afford to go too big. which reminds me, does anybody use can filters? i read theyre posed 2 b the shit, but mine dont work worth a damn :wall: ive been able 2 smell the girls since 2 weeks after sprouting from seed! any ideas how to fix this? i been thinkin of wrappin it in dryer sheets...

I personally use a Phresh filter. I have a 235 cfm dayton blower extracting the heat and air out of my flowering chamber. The homes a/c feeds directly into it at the bottom of the chamber via (2) 4" inlet ducts. I can stand with my face in the outlet from the Dayton and I don't smell a thing. However in my flowering chamber it smells of sweet tangerine fruitiness. I can't recommend the things I haven't used, just those I have.
So here's another one for ya,

http://www.dutchmaster.com.au/?language=english&page=product&product=GOLD_RANGE_LIQUID_LIGHT

I have grown plants easily twice the size of the plants not treated. Seriously freaks of nature style plants. I only use a 250 watt Feliz for veg and (2) 150 watt HPS lights for flowering. There is proof all over my journal that this stuff not only works but it really really works. Your quest for 3 zips is cake with this stuff.
3 zips would be an accident when your plants are 7" tall with 16 set's of branches at 30 days old.

Do that math, thats 32 branches total, so a new branch formed about every 20 hrs of growth. Roughly 4.5 branches per inch of plant. The whole thing will be a cola once you flower it.

You want an advantage over the other guy? This stuff was designed for people in small areas with small wattage lights.
